Hi all, I have just got myself a Multipla ELX jtd110 and am pleased with it but not as much as my 3 kids who now fight about who wants to sit in the middle.

Anyway I have a few niggles to sort out but the main one is the gear change, it seems a little on the stiff side I know diesels are not as easy to change gear but this can be like an old volvo lorry sometimes. But getting in and out of reverse is the worst. It crunches alot when going in and once the wife couldn't get out of reverse for a little while.

The car has done 92k on an 02 reg i'm hoping that its not going to be too exspensive to sort as we all like the car and the wife is starting to get used to looks after saying she wouldn't have one but the 6 seats does it.

I have done a search on here and found some info on clutch, bleeding etc i'm hoping someone may have had similar prob to this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hiya, sounds like either the hydraulics or the clutch itself.
The pedal should have even resistance all the way down it's travel rather than "falling" straight to the floor when pushed. If that's not the case, it's the hydraulics.
However, if the pedal travel is ok and even but the "biting" point of the clutch is low on the floor or actually on the floor, then it's the clutch that needs doing.
Either way it's because your clutch isn't disengaging.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply SGThirkell, sorry can't post a quote as I'm writing this on my phone. I had a feeling that it might be the clutch, replacing or a little adjustment I wasn't sure. I have found a clutch online for £92 + vat if it does need one. My wife took the car to a garage because of a saueaky pulley wheel so she asked about the gearbox and was told that might be a bad gearbox but he couldn't be sure without looking. But what he did find was that if after starting the car and you put it in 1st then reverse it does not crunch.

So I would be best to get the clutch checked as well as the hydrolics.

Thanks Will

Hello,

Stiff gear changes. especialy in wet and cold days ? This might be something that might solve the situation for the time being and to check if it is the linkage cables . Have you checked the bottom of the gear linkages, they have 2 rubber socks/seals on them and if they are worn water seaps into the cable.pushing them back and a good squirt of Wd-40 gets mine going for weeks again. Well worth a try before having anyting done by a garage. as they easily tell you the worst case senario

hopefully this helps

I recently had similar issues to yours.

Had the clutch bled, no difference, so had the clutch replaced. Now it's absolutely fine.

Get the 3-part clutch kit from shop4parts for 130 quid. Then it's just a case of finding who'll fit it cheapest....

As a guide my local FIAT dealer wanted to rush me about 900 all in, supplied and fitted. It takes about 5 hours labour, allegedly, and they cost out at 90 an hour + VAT, so....

With an aux belt bought + fitted, my total bill was £380. Good luck....

Cheers, Hedge

Symptoms on my car are clutch takes close to floor and slips under acceleration - am I right in thinking I only need the clutch and not the DMF as well?

Am in St Albans - would be very interested in where you found to have the clutch fitted for less than 250.

Thanks

Michael

We had a similar problem with ours until yesterday when it wouldnt go into gear at all and we had to get the AA out to us :( Ours is now sat in a garage waiting to be looked at but they think its clutch related as it will go into gear when the engine is turned off.

So I woiuld recommend getting it looked at incase the same happens to you.

Hi all,

Sorry its taken me this long to post back but its taken until today to get the clutch fixed on our Multipla now its at 95.5k. The wife got some cash so booked her car in to have the clutch changed as well as sorting out the really load squeal from the aux belt. Anyway she dropped the car off this morning and rang me to say that if this didn`t fix it she was going to have the dent pulled out (her fault!) and sell the car. I got a phone call after lunch with her being really happy that the car was now fixed. All the judder gone as well as it being really hard to get into gear (reverse was worse) even with your foot to the floor on the clutch.

So now the car is a lot better to drive, the quote we got to do the clutch was 270 +vat supplied and fitted. The bill was just over £351 for the clutch and an aux belt tensioner replaced plus top up of gear box oil.

I didn`t think that was too bad because I have read on here that the clutch can be quite a long job.
