Hello, Looking for someone to help/advice me to open the bonnet of my multipla, The cable has broken at the release mech. under the bonnet. Anyone had this problem and how do I get the bonnet open without having to go down to the local Fiat garage where they will charge as usual way over the top just to locate the obvious problem, then order and me paying out way over the ods for this straight forward DIY £12.= replacement cable job.

Thanks.

go down the the local shopping centre and ask a couple of hoodies to open it for you for a bottle of cider.:)

Hello
Are you sure the cable is snapped. With mine it had actually released the catch, therefore the cable under the dash felt slack. The problem was actually the mechanical safety catch was jammed. So make sure the bonnet is popped first then with a lever force the manual release lever down, the bonnet should raise a little more then and then move the lever back up to raise the bonnet all the way.

I've just had exactly the same problem, after messing for hours, I left it alone till this morning, then had an idea.. I had that bonnet open within 5 seconds.. causing minimal damage, there's actually no need to drill or cut you bumper as mentioned i other posts. The only thing that gets damaged is the cable, which will need replacing anyway. this is how I done it ... crouching in front of the car, look up at the lock, on the right hand side of the catch, you will see a round peice of plastic that goes into this catch, break this off with a screwdriver, comes off quite easily, this reveals the inside cable. Get yourself a long approx 1ft, cheap massonary drill peice, bend the end over make it L shaped with the peice bent over the same length as the lock which is approx 3-4 inches, sldie this up through the lock where you removed the plastic, this will push the lever and the bonnet pops open. I couldn't beleive how easy it was after all the messing. What I've done until I can get a new cable is take the lock out and put a cable tie around it, so all I have to do is pull this to open it until my cable arrives. And I still have a complete bumper and no holes in my bonnet. Hope this is useful, because I would have done yesterday, so it's a pleasure to share it.:)

Hi folks! Newbie here having a little difficulty with an '03 Multipla JTD.

It all started with a minor coolant leak, in the process of being traced but requiring a daily top-up. Now, sod's law, the bonnet release cable has snapped, at or near the catch judging by the amount of slack available at the bonnet release lever.

Am I missing something? No sign of any round piece of plastic or any conduit for any cable. Would appreciate any tips or guidance as I'm kinda stumped...and kinda lumbered until I get it sorted!

Grrr!

Then again, maybe I'm not even looking in the right place!...

....okay, can't post an image yet - 5 posts apparently - would a mod care to assist?

Okay, persevered and it works! Yes, it kills the cable - but the cable was already dead.

For reference, the round piece of plastic is a section of pipe/conduit - seemingly of the same material as the bumper and fascia work. Where it butts-up on the RHS, tap in a sharp, flat screwdriver and twist around until it starts to come away.

Can't vouch for the masonry bit: In the shed I had a couple feet of old 12mm chromed pipe leftover from wardrobe building. Ideal! Bend to 90 degrees about 4" along and the bend the 4" section into a slight hook.

Pop goes the bonnet! No need to tie anything down etc - just carry your "key" until you get your new cable fitted.

Happy bunny!

Anyone got any tips on opening a facelift with a broken cable with least damage possible, or just grill damage?

Just to add to my woes can't open the bonnet :(

Thanks in advance :)

Hi all, my cable has snapped at bonnet end, used the hooked method to fish the cable but the inner cable was’nt there. Anybody any ideas, if not it looks like the old crow bar, regards dd

Mine has done the same. The inner cable comes out at the dashboard end so cable must have snapped. Fishing out the cable at the bonnet there is nothing there to pull. I have twisted out the outer casing and there is nothing inside it. I tried pulling the outer to the right. Anyone know have a solution

Having a second Multipla does help sometimes! I examined the locking mechanism on it and attach a pic of the reverse with the car's NS is on the left. The cable enters from the car's NS and is clipped to a release lever in one of several possible positions. The end terminal is fixed to the casing. So pulling the lever below the steering wheel will therefor shorten the cable inside the mechanism and make the release lever inside move towards the car's OS. I will need to make an L shaped lever to insert where the plastic piece was, to press the lever towards the OS. One thing I noticed was that after giving this one a good lubricating and reattaching it the lever wouldn't release the bonnet! Several attempts and relocating the mechanism solved that problem. You can see one of the squares though which the bolts go so there quite a variation in positions! If you are going to remove your mechanism I suggest you mark the positions of the bolts and mechanism before starting
