as on my last post ive been having problems with car cutting out, stereo losing its memory etc. ive tightened battery connections and everything is real tight now.

however the stereo still keeps losing its memory but car hasnt cut out yet whilst driving giving the engine ctrl faulty.

however i drove car all day on friday various lengths of journey car started and drove ok. i then went to pick my son up from school stopped car for approx 5 mins, when i wen to start the car batt was flat, jump started it and away it went. car drove fine for the rest of the day and all day sat.

got up on sunday morning to take the family out for the day and the car started fine drove approx 8 miles stopped the car and when i went to restart the battery was flat again ( solonoids just click when turning the ignition ) managed to bump the car and away it went. got to where we were going and had to jump styart the car to get it going and its been fine ever since, 4 journeys today and starts first time.

anyone got any ideas what may be causing this

If you changed the battery a few weeks ago (from an earlier post) it could be that you have fitted a dodgy battery.
Where did you get it? Try taking it back for a discharge test.

no the battery i put back in was the same one that was already in the car i took it out to recharge as an interiour light had flattened it overnight took it recharged it then re fitted it. that was way back in january tho

A few things come to mind here. Let's assume the battery is ok. Could the alternator be dodgy? Have you checked the voltage across the battery when the engine is running it should be more than 13 volts. Put the heater and lights on as well to try it. If 12 or less then suspect the alternator. Also check the belt tension although it would probably squeal if it was loose.

It's possible to have a faulty ignition switch which sometimes makes and sometimes doesn't. I've known the electrical part at the back of the switch become loose from the front mechanical part and produce some wierd effects. Also are the connections tight on the starter motor? Is the starter motor itself tight?!!

Last but not least you tightened up the battery connections. Did you check the main earth lead connections to the body and engine from the negative connection on the battery? Next time it plays up, if its safe to do so, connect a jump lead from the negative battery connection to some part of the engine and try the starter.

Good luck,

Dave.

I reckon you have a dodgy cell in the battery that keeps dropping out , change it for a new one.
The time spent messing around no matter what job you do you could have earned enough to buy one and it quickly rules it out.
But really suspect it, get a batt test done , not a halfrauds meter across the batt it wont show anything go to a batt specialist they will have your answer in seconds.

or if your brave , remove all the caps on the battery and short it out and see if one of the cells bubbles;) im in no way to be held responsible if it blows up!.
