Hi all,
my condenser has got a hole in it
Does anyone know if this is a simple job to replace it with a new unit and then have someone recharge the system?
Are there any special seals etc on the in and out connections or would a normal pipe sealing compound be ok when re assembling?
Cheers :)

Hi all
I've been told I need a new air-con condensor. The cheapest I've found was £97 inc VAT + delivery from a company in Staffs. The most expensive over £200!!!
Of course then I need it fitted and re-gassed.
Is it ok to email Pete and ask about fitting myself? Or has anyone done this themselves and can give advice?

Cheers

Hiya, I also was going along your route and found one for just over £100.
However, after talking to a knowledgeable aircon engineer, he advised that I also fit a new receiver dryer due to the fact that my system had been open to the air for ages and would now have moisture within the system itself.
So that would be more expense and more messing about with a high pressure system that I'm not used to working on and then after all that I'd still need it regassing with the correct quantity of gas and oil and then testing etc.
Needless to say, I finally decided to let an experienced car air con engineer do all the work from start to finish.
Yes I had to pay the labour, where I could've saved that doing it for myself, but it was worth it in the long run and the whole system is under guarantee and working great.
I'm not trying to put you off but just sharing my thoughts and experiences if that helps.

I would say if it has a hole in it then you might as well change it yourself as the gas should be evacuated anyway now. You might find the seals are re-usable once it's off. Then take it to your local a/c man and he will regass it. At least you save the labour for changing it.
