The tailgate switch which you use to open the boot isn't working right. One minute it will open when pressed the next it wont.

You can hear a noise coming from the switch when pressed but not the normal sound it makes when opening. You can try opening the boot 5,6,7 times and nothing happens then go back 2hours later and it will open 1st time. I can also open it 1st time then try again and nothing happens.

The boot has also opened twice now while the car is running. first time was just as i stopped in my drive. The boot opened on its own then a few seconds later started making the sound of it being pressed 4/5 times. The second time was as I was reversing out of my drive.

I wouldn't mind if it just stopped working altogether as I'd just use the key to unlock it.

Is this a common problem? If so is it easy to fix? Can I get a replacement switch and is it cheap?

thanks

I've simply given up on mine and just use the key every time. It hurts your fingertips and infuriates you trying with the switch.

Our new Grande Punto's the same, only it regularly opens while travelling as well. At least the Multi hasn't done that. Yet.

I wish they'd never done away with the lever and cable system. It worked! But theoretically switches and wire are cheaper and easier to assemble. Doesn't matter if it's less reliable.:bang:

I've already done the dismantling/cleaning thing and it fixed it for less than a week. Most likely a new switch is required.

I'll just use the key. :(

Try checking the earth wire where it leaves the car and goes into the boot lid, pull back the rubbers and give it a good tug!:D

Thaks for the help. it's stopped working all together now so will just stick with the key for now.
