Hi

Have had my 51 Multipla for about 8 weeks now and much as I love it, it's starting to **** me off!

I was driving back from Edinburgh to Northants and while on the M6 driving around 75 in 5th gear, the car suddenly lost power. I dropped down to 4th and the power came back.

Over the last couple of days, its started to do the same thing again. Last night it lost power while I was in 3rd and 4th gears but again came back on when I dropped down.

Any ideas? - all gratefully received.

I had exactly the same on my 2002 1.9JTD 115. Almost exactly the same conditions....motorway 75 (ish) then no power. The Fiat dealers changed the airflow censor to the turbo, they then tried the engine management unit then finally discovered a "burnt out wire"...problem solved!

i am also having the same problems, the sensor has been changed many times but the problem keeps comming back, what wire was found burnt out? i can check mine.

hi all
new to this site so hope this is right place for this thread.
anyway, 1900jtd has no power, looked on web found a site saying air flow mass sensor might be a problem, so disconnected as it sugested, now loads of poewr and better fuel consumption.
was getting 32pmg with air flow sensor connected now getting 50mph without it connected.
fiat wants £160.00 plus vat for this part but found a firm in essex who wants £55 plus vat for new part.
question.
is it really necessary for this to be connected or can i run it with it disconnected and what problems may i face if i leave it disconnected.

sorry for a long thread but not sure what to do.
thanks

Wow! Why would the air flow sensor cause a power loss?
And i'm interested too about does it have to be replaced.

Spookily my 03 has flashed up "Engine Control Faulty contact garage" today. The manual says drive slowly to a garage - which the misses did - they checked it over and could find anything wrong. (despite the manual stating that the onboard computer will keep a record of the error message)

She left them about 20mins again and as soon as she hit a sixy mph zone the car has become sluggish and struggles up hills.

Does anybody know if this is covered by the third year of the 3yr warranty? Apparently the third year is not with Fiat, but a third party insurance company.
