Has become very slow to retract, probably an MOT failure for the future. Wife needs to use all seats next week.

Took as much as the plastic casing off from the top of the seat, but belt appears to disappear down into seat itself. Now tipping down so investigation halted!!

Anyone know where the inertial reel is for the belt? I am assuming that I may need to get under seat to investigate if it is caught up or needs to be replaced?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :worship:

You might remember me from such do it yourself videos as:

"Mothballing your own battleship"

and

"Dig your own grave and save"

:D

back 'on message', the inertia reel is under the seat, near the front edge.

But, before looking there, we had the same problem with ours and I found the problem was actually part of the seat trim. Fold the seat flat and you'll see the belt passes over the 'hinge' area. Either side of where the belt passes, there's a black 'U' section plastic trim to retain the seat fabric. On mine, this was rubbing against the edge of the belt, stopping it retracting. Cure: tease the trim away from the seat and snip a couple of mm off it (wire cutters did the job). Pushed back, all has been well ever since (some years now)

Hope this helps. If not clear, will take and post a photo

Herts,

Top job, exactly as you described :worship:

Trimmed area around belt and all is working nicely.

Many thanks,

Troy.

Just swapped the middle front seat with one from a parts car due to a malfunctioning seat belt reel (I presume). After hours of dissembling and reassembling, the "new" reel turns out to be as uncooperative as the original one - won't let go of the belt!
:bang:
Common problem? Is the belt pretensioner thingie involved?
Frustrated...
