Hi,

Our Y reg petrol multipla has developed an odd fault.

When you try and start the car a message comes up saying ebb system fault please turn off engine. Or something like that as I have not seen it, only the misses.

She turns the engine off, restarts it and it's fine and doesn't have any more problems till she needs to restart it. It does not happen on every start.

Any ideas?

I suspect it says 'EBD fault' -- electronic brake(force) distribution -- a system related to ABS that adjusts the brake fluid pressures to reduce the tendency to lock wheels, especially the rears when the car is lightly laden.

If that's what its saying, then I'd get it looked at, either by a dealer, or by an ABS specialist. Safety systems that may not be working properly are not safe. The instruction book describes various combination of this message and warning lights on the dash that help to decide if its only the EBD system, or (more dangerously) the ABS system (anti lock brake system) that is at fault.

I have never seen the error, my misses swares blind that it happens everytime she starts the car, but I just don't get it?

the brakes seem fine, if a little slack, though I have felt something like an abs kick in once or twice before when I wouldn't have expected it. Not having driven a car with abs before it's difficult to say what it is and why though.

Can't be doing with these new fangled things and this is the newest car I have ever owned.

It's due an MOT in Oct so I am suspecting a new tyre, brakes and either suspension or anti roll bar work as the car can sound like a bucket of bolts on rough roads.

My mates multi had a knackerd battery and it was throwing up all sorts of codes for no other reason than the batt being a bit flat, changed it and all was well.
