I had my aircon regassed last November. And at the time it ran really cold when turned on.

Obviously it has not been used much over the winter, but now its not chilling at all.

I'm sure that I used to notice a change in revs when it was turned on, but now I don't. Im not sure that the compressor is being activated at all.

Is there anything I can check myself or should I call out a mobile air con specialist? Should the radiator fan come on when teh A/C is working?

thanks in advance

The fan does normally come on and you should be able to hear the hum even with the windows up.

If you want it checked out for free, go to Kwik-fit for a re-charge. They'll check your system and if there's a problem that stops them from doing the recharge, you'll walk away without having spent a penny, but at least they'll tell you what the problem is. If there's nothing wrong the recharge will only cost £45.

It might be a leak somewhere or a failed component. It's quite hard to check too.

Have you ever noticed any leaks under the car?

Hi,

As above has the system pressure checked. If there is no pressure in the system then the compressor wont cut in. A small hole in the condenser or a crack in one of the high pressure pipes (which is common) or a sticky nipple could be allowing the gas to escape over time.

I've not noticed any leaks. Just the lack on noise/ extra revs.

The system was pressure tested back in November. Back then I did originally visit KwikFit but they said there was a problem with the valves on the system and they couldnt connect their equipment - which was why I visted another A/C place. However the valves were fine and the A/C guy was able to connect his equipment, suck out my gas, do a 20min pressure test, and then regass. So I suspect that the young lad at KF didn't know what he was doing!

I'm near another KF at the weekend so may well call in the try them again.

Yea, quick fit arent the best.... but at least you can use them to your advantage sometimes as they offere a few "free check-ups" where you can basically get them to test it for free and then get someone who knows what theyre doing to do the work!! lol

You wouldn't notice any leaks on the floor etc as it will escape as a gas... ie like a slow puncture in a tyre. Let us know how you get on, and if its not the gas then we can go from there with some other checks etc....
