I've just purchased a second hand tool kit for my Multi and found something in it that I'm bu**ered if I know what it's for!!

It's a yellow metal plate which measures about 5" x 3" and has a bolt hole at either end and an oblong(ish) shaped hole which looks about 2.5" x 2" in the middle. There's also two bolts with a fine thread (look like seat belt mount bolts to me).

I've not got a Owner's Handbook with it and the guy I bought it off had no idea either. It came from another Multipla he is breaking.

Any ideas?

I guess your Multipla has alloy wheels? The space-saver (steel) spare wheel is suspended on a wire cable under the car, winched down by turning the bolt under a plastic cover just inside the boot near the latch. The end of the wire has a 'toggle' that passes through the centre of the spare to hold it on the wire. The plate you describe is used to lift the punctured tyre on an alloy wheel back under the car, because the winch toggle won't go through the alloy wheel's thicker rim. You use the bolts to fit the plate to the inside of the alloy wheel, and the end of the winch system slots in through the odd-shaped hole!

Personally never actually tried it. After the only puncture I've had, I simply put the wheel I removed into the boot.

So, now you know!
