Hello, I have owned a second-hand Multipla for three months (Y reg) and have recently noticed a leak from the little hatch between the two sun-roofs. It happens more or less every time it rains, so we're a bit concerned. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem, as my local garage have told me it seems to be a recurrent fault with multiplas? We still haven't had it fixed, as the local garage have advised us to go back to the dealer[V]Any advice will be helpful!!

Hi, our front sunroof leaked. The reason was that upon closing, the front edge of the glass was catching the rubber seal and pulling it out of it"s seating.Short term fix was to open sunroof push seal back into seating then close sunroof gradualy until it"s just about to catch the rubber seal. Hold rubber seal down until front edge of glass roof has passed over, preventing it dragging it out again then close fully. This stopped our leak completely.Showed main dealer problem, first they replaced rubber seal, didn"t work as roof still dragged seal out, upon drawing this to their atten. they lubricated rubber seal which as a fix was just plain stupid. In the end they had car in for several days for the purpose of replacing both sunroofs fully. This was carried out under warrenty but they said it would have cost 500 pound each. Maybe they could adjust the angle of the glass someway? and did for all I know. You can see if the seal iin situ by standing at side of car with sunroof open and look along back edge as if looking down barrel of a gun the seal has a seam along it that will be easy to judge if sitting properly or not.Hope this helps!

Let me tell you a story - we bought a 2001 multipla with very few miles on it. Loved it at first, then it rained and the problems started - the sunroofs leak like a sieve, the dealerships know all about it as it's a very common problem (and not just on Multiplas). The design of the sunroof action is such that it tends to damage the seal as it closes, and there's no reasonably priced seal available to replace - when we first contacted a dealership, we were quoted over £1000 to replace the entire sunroof! I contacted the Fiat Customer Helpline (0800-717000 or 0800-3899119) to see if they would do the decent thing and replace it FOC, as I felt we were suffering because of their incompetence (a good vehicle manufacturer would have identified these problems during testing & development, and put them right - I believe what Fiat do is termed 'customer validation'). After many phonecalls to the dealership and the helpline, the best they could do was to offer to sell me the part for just under £300, and pay a bit of the labour. So then, £300 to fix a leaky seal, which ought to cost about a tenner if they had done their job right in the first place. And it stained the rooflining and damaged the electrical switches mounted in it - I should point out that the sunroof switches fizzle and spark when they get full of water from the leaks, and it's a definite fire-hazard!
If you're suffering the same fate, can I suggest that you also contact the Fiat helpline and let them know what you think of their sunroof durability, and the unreasonable cost of putting it right, perhaps they might be shamed into some sort of action.
I reckon you can a judge a company not on how many mistakes they make, but how they deal with them afterwards, and Fiat haven't impressed me much. Needless to say, I shan't be buying any Fiat product again.
Thanks Fiat, you're all heart.

This is well documented and a regular problem!
You can buy a sealant from camping shops that is very thin...thinner than water that creeps along the cracks/gaps and when it dries seals the problem off! Check the forum its been on there in there last month...

Moriarty the mundane

I used a bead of clear silicone sealant - good stuff about £4 to £5 a tube from any diy shop - around the edge of both sunroofs where the black plastic contacts the metal (not the glass!). Takes about 5 mins and is fairly invisible.

The leaks are completely cured and there is the added bonus that most of the Multipla electrical gremlins I have been putting up with for several years have disappeared as the panels dried-out.
