I've looked through the forum and all the alarm questions I've come across are about turning it off so if this has already been answered I apologise in advance.

Just bought a Multipla JTD 2001. The central locking works but the alarm does not. I've had problems with local kids denting cars I’ve left out the back so want to turn the alarm on. The car didn't come with a manual and I have no idea how the alarm was turned off never mind how to turn it on.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you use the remote central locking and then unlock the door with a key, do the hazard lights start flashing? If they do, it sounds like someone's disconnected the siren; if they don't, it's likely the sensor circuit that's been disabled. According to the manual, if you lift the fuse box cover at the top of the dash on the right, you should find a key slot that turns the siren on or off. Problem is that although the manual is meant to be for right hand drive cars, the illustration is from a left hand drive car. On both Rh drive Multiplas I've had, the key slot wasn't there. I checked with Fiat; they say that "not all options shown in the manual were fitted to UK cars". Just maybe, the wiring is there to put a simple make/break switch in the siren circuit, but I don't know if this is the case. According to Arnold Clark (Fiat agents in Dundee), it might be possible to enabled or disable the siren in software..............

Worth trying a car security company? Ideally what you want is a simple switch you can set before you leave the car; one that does not automatically re-set to `alarm on' after it's been used once.
