More than happy to act as... (y)

  • cameraman;
  • note-taker;
  • Jaffa Biscuit moderator;
  • occasional grease-monkey and undoer of recalcitrant nuts and bolts;
  • Haynes interpreter;
  • tea-maker; and
  • wise shoulder to cry on.
BTW, benny279 -- have you seen this and this in the Classifieds...? :confused:

Also, fingers99 -- do you have access, please, to a Punto Mk2 1.2 8v workshop manual on CD...? If so, please PM me. Ta...! :worship:

Thanks to all who've volunteered so far, to help out on this; and to all those others who I know will. Both when I joined FF, and then set up MI, I had no idea it would go down this path -- but I do know I've met some great guys because of it; and I am truly awed and grateful that some of you (i) have already helped benny279, when his Punto first broke down; and (ii) are now willing to get involved in this. :slayer:

Let's roll...! :D

PS: benny279 -- have you got a garage for us to work in, if it rains? If not: has anyone got one of those portable 'tent' things, we can use as temporary cover...? :idea:

PPS: Dragon Man -- any way you and your awesome mechanical skills and knowledge can be persuaded to get involved in this? (There's at least a free Panda parcel shelf in it for you...!) :devil:

As long shes happy to get her hands dirty!:devil: only joking she can just sit in the corner with homeward and watch a bunch of men ripping an engine out:rolleyes:

I suddenly feel very old... (and I gain yet another year, this week...). :p

Thinking of changing my user name to 'bennysgrandad'.... :eek:

ahaha too funny! go for it!:D

all of the hard work we all put in it'll be worth it when that first start up and hear it idle quietly and happily:)

unfortunately i dont have a garage, so if anyone has a short of small gazebo or something to go over the engine bay would be great(y)

i appreciate your help on this Stephen for a) setting up this club in first place b) being a fantastic leader c) allowing me to take over the next meet to do the rebuild:)

and that list you posted, by all means do all of them, no doubt we will come across some right stubbon bolts and nuts!

we will give the engine replacement its essentials such as a brand spanking new headgasket, we will clean it up and everything, put a new water pump on it, a FIAT thermostat, new rocker cover gasket, brand new sparkies from old engine, that first fire up she will sound happy as day! and at that point we can all celebrate our victory!:D

so yes Stephen make sure you take notes of everything photos even videos as i do want a video of this rebuild:)

let's do this!!!!!!

As I said, I'm up for this providing its on a Sunday that I'm available. (y)

I'm not available on:
1st September
8th September

6th October (might be able to get out of it.)
13th October
20th October

And I have a gazebo I can bring. :)

PS. Get LOADS of Jaffa cakes!!!

Dom

Are you rebuilding or replacing the engine?

My advice is this from doing my engine swap over
Drop the engine and gearbox as 1 to the floor
The raise car up and then slip lump from underneath

Just disconnect gators from driveshafts save g.box fluid going every where.....
Its the perfect time for a clutch as its an extra 10mins
You will need an engine crane or roof crane the enginez are heavy I struggled with just a friend doing mine

Man power can make this easier
A gazebo would be grand!

And jaffa cakes..... sod that wheres the cake?

I was just thinking that we need some sort of checklist: both of all the individual tasks that need doing; and of the equipment needed. This is a great start! Ta! :worship:

PS: See also this thread...! (y)

PPS: The Haynes manual actually has a chapter entitled Engine removal and overhaul procedures -- it's Chapter 2 Part C, and is therefore on page 2C.1...! :)

this may take a while..!,

OK, if there are people to spare while the other engine / box are being removed,

+1 on the crane,(y)

Mine doesn't fit in my current little FIATS,:(

maybe worth sussing out the hire fees local to you for a weekend?,
