Punto (Mk2/2b) 17's on the gt...

beau, if you really intend to keep this car do your a few favors and do them NOW!

1) get a wide mouth front bumper, with the difference that made to the engine temp of a 1.2 I'd say a 1.4 turbo requires it not only for cooling but maybe power.

2) that car has most likely been front ended so get it on a wheel alignment rig and make sure all 4 wheels are pointing in the same direction (I wish I had the sense to do this with my punto)

3) get the engine out right now and have someone go over it properly to tell you what's wrong, it's been sitting about for what 18 months?... it will need work doing to it!

I think passplus get you more off now than they did before.

when i passed (2004) a passplus was around £120, and would have saved me, wait for it........................ £27:eek: most places wouldn't accept one, and the two that did quoted a much higher premium anyway!! wasn't worth it back then.

now maybe, you might get more off. but as I say, if the premium is stupid high, then they are liekly to give you more off for having it, if you get what I mean.

also get a sex change, womens insurance (even on std multisex insurance co's not women specific ones) save around 60% in their first year over a blokes!!

do you know why.

because then they have an accident or make a boob of a parking manover they sort it all out privatly, so actually safe a sht load of money, whilst also producing false figures to insruance co's!!

although I must admit, it is true, most women ARE more carefull and ARE more cautious and most aren't interested in driving their cars hard, they just use them as they should

you all seem to keep saying that it would of been better for someone else to have it? it was being scrapped... so basicly your all saying it would of been best to have a pretty rare car crushed.

When put like that I think you honestly did the right thing, you gave it at least a chance to still have a life as apposed to being crushed/scrapped.

I dont think you was stupid to buy it at all, for the cost of a trailer to get it home I would have snapped it up mate.

I do however think you are being rather abitious when it comes to running it as your first car. But hey you never know, all of the negative comments that people have made in this thread could be just what you need to give you the motivation to prove everyone wrong.

Whatever you decide to do and whether people think its right or wrong there is no denying that picking up a GT1 for £60 was a smart move.

beau, it'll be safer for you tbh... PGTs are under braked and rather rapid put an inexperienced driver, I'm assuming you've not had any track time etc, that's a recipe for big impact with something rather hard :(

personally i think he'll under estimate his braking and hit someone, or go off a corner...

Could of told alot of us...

Yes he might of done the right thing by getting it, but he cant afford it, the right thing to do would be to tidy it up and get an mot and flog it for more, make some money and sort out his sx so its finished for when he passes.

the best thing to do in a situation like this is to break it, GT bits go for good money. the money you make selling parts can help toward fixing the 75 up ready for when you're 17.

realistically the GT isnt going back on the road, it'll cost too much, and they dont cost much to buy in good conditon with t&t these days so it'll be hard to sell for more than £100. thats why it was free, its not really a free car, to make it worth money you need to spend money on it. its value is locked up, and it'll cost too much to release it, cars like that are pretty worthless.

unless you know what you're doing (i doubt it at such a young age) then fixing it up wont be cheap. you cant do it all yourself. i'm sure the paintwork is the least of your troubles if its been sitting a while, especially on a turbo. tax and test is a long way off for that car. it could cost you a lot of money, or get scrapped, but i personally think breaking it could work out nicely.

the 75 is a better first car anyway. take this gift GT as a way to earn a few quid, not a cheap route to your first turbo, because it wont be cheap.
