Punto (Mk2/2b) 17's on the gt...

StoneNewt: 1 years NCB is 30% off the premium or at least it is according to my insurance renewal.

Beau: The wheels look better on the GT than they did on the 75, at least they sit well under the arches and dont make the car look like a 4x4.

They are however stupidly impractical and would be seriously illegal the way that they are but seeing as the GT wont be going anywhere for a while and will just be used as something to look at and rev to impress your mates then its not a problem for you.

I think it has been mentioned and I think you agreed that if and when you get the GT on the road then you are better off swapping it back over to standard GT alloys, that way it will be road legal in the wheel department and it will handle the way that a GT is supposed to (y)

if you do a passplus you get between 30-50% off first years insurance

From what I remember and this is not neccessarilly 100% accurate but pass plus will save you upto 30% (upto the equivilant of 1 years NCB) and it is also not accepted by all insurance companies so its a vital question to ask when phoning round for insurance if you are considering doing pass plus.

When I first started driving Direct Line (my insurers at the time) said that they wouldnt give me any discount for a pass plus certificate and seeing as they undercut all of the other companies that I tried by more than the pass plus was worth minus what it would have cost me to do it, I didnt bother doing the pass plus.

The other thing about pass plus is that once you have passed your test you find it really hard listening to an instructor again, you feel that you are now good enough to drive on UK roads and you no longer need anyones advice. Im not saying that this is right but I am saying that this is the first thought that goes through "most" new drivers heads.

So if you're considering pass plus, make sure you check out the following things:

1) Does the insurance company accept pass plus?
2) How much does pass plus cost?
3) How much will pass plus save me on my insurance?
4) Am I willing to listen to an instructor telling me what to do even though I have passed my test?

I'm not really in too much of a bad area but the cheapest by far I could egt mine down to on my first year was £2209 (standard 1.2 Mk1 Punto). Now sitting on £1000, with one fault crash and 0 NCB (but held licence for a year, that brought it down alot).

To insure a GT when I was 17 (and I did check :D) I was looking at £6000:eek:

Thats why I never took it, my instructer actually told me to phone around and get the savings offered wasn't worth the cost of the course :yuck:

yeah but you is well old so get it cheap enough, they cant knock off as much for you :p

I was 18 when i did it and like i said cost £100 to do and knocked £200 off.

my 1 years NCB knocks just over 60% off my insurance :D Pass Plus would knock an extra £72 off, but it's not worth the money. it worked out at taking a whopping £17 off when i passed, haha.

Pass Plus probably would take money off the first year's insurance, but we're forgetting that this is gonna be a 17 year old that wants to get insured on a turbo hot hatch with 140 brake

Chances are they're gonna up the premium horrendously, meaning that even with a 50% discount you'd be paying 3 odd grand. Only a very very silly insurance company would charge plausible money for a first time driver on a car with that much power!!

I'm nearly 22 with 4 years no claims, even if I get insured on my parent's postcode I still pay a fortune for high power cars (n)

Someone's living in a dream world

Don't worry, like i said in a previous beau thread. I had a lotus excel on my drive waiting for me to get into after i passed my test. As soon as he actually tries to sort out getting on the road and insure it, he'll just have to take that massive blow and get rid, let the boy dream for a bit, i don't think we're gonna change his mind.. Besides, the cars been sat for a quite a while already so will need a major overhaul before going out on the road. So long as beau don't keep starting it it'll still be in the same(ish) condition for the next person to revive it to its former glory.

* Unless it gets nicked in the mean time

** It cannot get nicked as by the looks of it the tyres are now clamped to the arches

I think we're safe

Perhaps the only situation when i might take that GT badge off and put it one one of the others, would be so funny if someone stole the slow one thining it was a GT :D

But really beau, listen to everyone, don't you go out there and keep starting and stopping even if you say you let it warm up, idling is BAD!!!!! esspecially on a turbo!

lol. i wasnt going to be so blunt... this car could of actually gone to someone who would fix it and drive it.. but its fallen into the hands of a 15/16yr old who will probably never be able to drive it, unless under mums/dads name.
