Before I got old and boring I used to arse about with old VW's and beach buggies. I was about to buy another recently but with the imminent arrival of a small pink screaming baby thats been put on hold for a few years( I will be secretly stashing cash to one side to buy one outright in couple of years, hee hee) So here are some pics of what I used to bomb around in.

First one is my very first buggy, its a long wheel base very low and loud buggy that was really cool to drive.

You can just make out the exhaust sticking straight up at the back, the system was about 2 foot long in total and unscilenced, which meant flat out it was ear piercingly loud:D:D:D:D

Second is my old 1968 bug, This didn't hang around as one Volvo T5 owner found out when I blitzed him at a Traffic light, priceless:D:D:D:D

Third is my old SWB Buggy, this was the best but had to be sold to fund a move a couple of years ago. It had a big motor that was fully chromed and detailed up. Its specs were as follows-

1- 1641 cc motor
2- Balanced fly wheel
3- Twin 40 delorto Carbs
4- 10mm High power leads
5- 70,000 volt coil (burnt plugs out every 2,000 miles)
6- Race cam, very lumpy idle and flame outs on overun

It was quick and weighed only 450kg-500kg and topped out at 105mph, which in a light weight plastic bath tub was scary as ****. When low on fuel it also popped wheelies in 2nd but mainly in 1st.

cool cars, especially that red buggy. (y)

i wanna pull wheelies, might see if i can do a reverse wheelie up hill later today :chin:

proper love that red buggy..... :worship: :worship:

my old man has had his fair share of dubs, 2 beetles that both got written off, mk1 golf gti, and a mk2 16v gti, with the black bbs RM wheels :yum: that was actually the first manual car i ever drove! :slayer:

*cough* might be buying a mk1 clipper *cough* ;)

mk1 clipper (y) so cool even today, in fact i think they look even better as time goes on. its so hard to find a good one, and then even harder to convince the owner to let it go. i lad at my local motor factors has a black one in pristine condition, i asked him how much he wants for it and he said blood. sounds like a fair trade

if im honest ive wanted ones since i could drive, but only now can afford the insurance (y)

luckily there are quite a few within 30-40 miles of me which is a nice bonus, and i kinda know wat to look out for and go for when getting one so we will see..... do need to get a new job sorted first tho. :bang:

The Beetle was running a 1641cc with twin 40's, and a lumpy cam, fast as feck upto 60, after that the Volvo caught and past.

My friend has a 65 bug with a huge turbo motor in it. He's just come back from Belgium where he ran I think a 11.17sec standing quarter. He says it will get into the low 10's but he lifts slightly in 3rd at 130mph because the back end gets light:eek:

At the mo just gonna keep me Brava ELX jtd running and get the house done and take care of my lady and baby. Then I will think about another buggy/beetle.

This Cabrio is owned by a nice chap called Richie. If you watch an old episode of 5th gear where Vicki Butler-Henderson is in a Rolls Royce/ Bentley Arnarge T at Santa Pod, in the other lane is Richie in his Cabrio, she comments to the camera that the beetle is warming his tyres to look pro, only for 2 secs later she gets absolutely blown away by him!!!! Great TV I think you will agree.

Aye, Richie Webb to be precise, have spoken to him a couple of times at the Pod, I love his car so much.. Just gotta respect the fact that after that he puts his road tyres on and drives it home, truely awesome machine!!

a mechainc at my work built one,she got given the vw beetle years ago and it sat round the yard at work for bout 10years and then she used that as the donor car n built a yellow buggy.cost her around £1300 to build it,taking in mind she did all the work herself
