acquired a little project today.

not entirely sure what to do with it tho.







the engine is dead on it apparently, so the first thing i'm going to do it check that is the case. depending on the outcome of that i have them 2 choices.

1) replace the engine and sell it.

2) break for parts.

and you should keep it as a van it would be compleatly different

maybe standard punto tuning on the outside, Gt engine upfront and a massive ice install in the back

i did think about GT converting it but leaving the rest as you see.

problem is i could really do with making some money out of it. just stripped aprt the engine in my GT to find the head cracked and the turbo dead.

a TD60?!?!?

I though the 1.7TD was a 70 or something, and the 60 was an NA disel 1.7.

its really pathetic power but driven a TD70 (75>???) and it was nice and torquey, better on the motorway then a sporting TBH, but still undergeared.

vaux astra vans have a following, you should start a puntovan following

i've seen a few TD60's, infact most of the TD's i've seen have been 60's lol.

i doubt i would get much of a following, except buy the AA.

Sort the engine then punt (excuse the pun! oopps done it again!) it on!

thats what i'm thinking, need to find out whats wrong with it first.

mines a 1.7 TD n its not a 70 or owt, just got TD badge on side

Well i have found the problem.

first thing first, the oil was like treacle, looked like if hadn't been changed... EVER! so i whipped the sump off.











as you can see, after taking the sump off i thought i would have a little clean up and decided to ta the big ends off....

well 3 of them were fine... no problem at all. but cylinder number 2 was stuck solid. snapped both bolts getting it undone. the bearing was ****ed. probably caused by the oil.

i also found that the PAS belt had snapped. everything else seemed ok. pitty really looks like its new engine time.

if i had the money to source a GT engine i would. i have most of what else i would need to do the conversion.

i think the breaks will even fit behind the steelies
