Re: 4th time lucky*

Thanks Jackwhoo, only kidding! Though I have personally never seen a black mk1 in the flesh so when I saw it on ebay it was pretty much a done deal.
Hi WMF, yep this is a project alright. Theres enough spares included in to keep me busy for weeks, and the inside & outside need a scrub. The clutch doesn't slip but all gears are hard to select, so I'm hoping it's a bleeding issue rather than a release bearing issue. Otherwise I've just driven it home from Milton Keynes and she drives nice. Theres a big crease down the nearside that'll need doing one day but I'm happy plodding along with this one. Got to sell a Honda Civic now!

Do not worry I read your post as joking and joined in the jest(-:

Mine also had the hard to select/gears grinding trying too select reverse caused by clutch drag-cured by bleeding the clutch.
I did remove the valve thing in clutch pipe on the bulk head, don't know if the helped but is one less thing to bleed .

If you ever need a clutch master cylinder piston seal get in touch, it's a lot easier to change the seal from inside footfall than replace the whole master cylinder.

Best wishes

Jack

Re: 4th time lucky*

If you do check you clutch master from inside foot well. Very easy just pull back the dust boot and look for fluid leaking out. Make sure the clutch mc piston is at top of bore touching the push rod that is connected to the clutch pedal. If piston not at top of bore the return spring under piston may have broken , this will give very poor clutch release.

Just remembered I also have a spare brand new valeo dual mass flywheel for 1.9 jtd , available for cheap , if you do end up replacing clutch you would be sensible to fit new dmf.

Cheers Jack

Re: 4th time lucky*

According to this site:

https://www.carlogbook.co.uk/fiat/multipla/

There are 207 black Multiplas of all models left on UK roads, so you've got yourself a bit of a rarity.

Anybody looking out for a yellow or orange one is in for a long wait, by the look of it.

Re: 4th time lucky*

Good to see you back with another Multipla and looking forward to lots of posts.

On the subject of clutches has anyone overhauled their master cylinder in position from inside the cab? Looks possible to me and a lot easier than taking it off.

Yes have done this on multiple multiplas

It really is straight forward.

The only thing retaining the push rod and hence the piston in the bore is a forked clip that you push out sideways.
It is straight forward to release push rod from clutch pedal.

Check spring under piston is intact and in good condition.

I have a spare new piston seal pm me if you want to buy it.

Couldn't stand it's stars and 'stripes' any more so after independence day I peeled them off:

This is by far the worst damage on the car. I may have found an ebay seller with both passenger side doors in Black but they are in Liverpool. I'm going to Bradford in a couple of weeks though to pick up a 2cv chassis so may try and combine the trip. They're sort of the same location!
Also got to get a passenger side rear light cluster - so will see if DAM Fiats in Wickford have one I can pick up this week.

No progress so far other than a wash.

Nice to see another Multi being given a bit of TLC.

There really isn't another motor to compare with them.

Keep us well informed bro
