124 Spider (Classic) My 1978 Spider 124 (1800 engine)

Introduction

Hi all, I'm a happy new (first-time) Fiat owner. I picked up this 1978 Spider 124 with 78,000 miles. It leaks a little bit of oil but otherwise seems to run really well. Apparently it sat in someone's garage from 1991 - 2015, and the person I just bought it from rehabbed it enough to make it drivable.

So far I love it! I'm going to check through all the electrical systems, and fix a few really minor things, but mostly, I'm just going to enjoy it (I hope)!

Hello Neek,
I am a new member. I have just register this site. I have owned a 1977 Fiat 124 Spider and live in East Bay. Now I need some mechanic to work on valve job on my fiat. Do you have a good mechanic to work on your Fiat? If you do, could you refer for me?
Thank you and regards, copperfish99

Hi, hope you enjoy your car!

I joined the Fiat America club (http://fiatamerica.com), and there are some incredibly knowledgeable people in that club who have guided me through lots of work, and who also know all the shops around here. I'll give a plug that you should reach out to them and see about joining! If you want, send me a private message here and I can tell you more and make an intro to them if you'd like.

I don't know any good shops, though. I bought it in part to work on it myself. I haven't done a valve job but I did fix leaks on the cam housing which required a fair bit of work. It was fun!

Anyway, DM me if you'd like.

Anyone have any experience with "Roadster Salon"?

I want to restore my fiat spider back to it's original glory.
It needs too much for me to do it, I don't have the equipment, nor the patients and time to do it myself!

If it was an American car at least I would have the patients...lol!

Roadster Salon puts out some great cars, but a hefty price tag! like...$50,000+
is it worth it, to turn mine into a "Brand New 1978 Fiat 124 Spider???

or do I buy a 2020 fiat spider for $32000.00 and have a "State of the Art" Vehicle?

What To Do???
