Hi all.

I'm having a problem with the oil lamp on my Fiat 500 1,3 MJT 2008.

A week ago the oil lamp was flashing (because i didn't reset it), and suddenly it started lighting constantly (no sufficient oilpressure)

Checked oil level - ok
Checked oil pressure switch using a ohmmeter and airpressure - ok
Checked the wiring - seems ok (no cracks etc)

Then connected the wiring to ground - no light in oil lamp, and from that time there is no light in oil lamp with or without ignition on

Tried to disconnect the battery over night-no difference.

Can anyone help?

Best regards and a happy New Year

Hi Morten :)

How did you reset the oil service light..?

If its got A DPF you need to reset other things too.

If you used MES software.. you can illuminate dashboard warnings in test mode

There is of course the possibilty that constant flashing has in effect 'cooked' something :(

Hi Charlie.

I didn't reset the oil service light. It should have been reset, but the oil light came on constantly before it was reset. The car is standing at my place, but i'm affraid to drive it to the garage, because i don't know if there is oil pressure or not.

So before i take it to the garage, i would like to check all the things I can here. My first thoughts was that the oil lamp was broken

What does DPF means?
What is MES software? The garage have a Bosch kts 510/520 i think

Regards

Hi Morten, and welcome to the forum .

If it were my car, I'd buy an oil pressure test gauge and check the idling oil pressure before driving the car again. That should tell you definitively whether you have an erroneous indication, or an engine fault.

If it were petrol.. you could quite easily check if oil is being pumped to camshaft..top of engine

Unfortunately the diesel is not that easy.. :(

Yep......i was just thinking the same. As a start i will check if the oil pressure switch "cuts" (using a ohmmeter) when ideling. I know i don't get the exact pressure

Thanks

Okay.

It has DPF.

I think i will take it to the garage......It's my friends place, and check the warninglights as a start.

:)

Exactly......no light what so ever :-(

Hi,
You need to get decent diagnostics like Multiecuscan (MES www.multiecuscan.net) onto the car. It sounds like you my have two issues, first not resetting the service indicator AND the oil degredation counter and second the oil pressure light failing.
MES will let you seset the service and oil degredation, cancel any errors etc It will also let you manually turn on and of the oil pressure light to check it is working OK.
You nee to make sure the Garage has Fiat specific diagnostic software or the correct licence / module for a professional system. A generic OBD read will not do the oil degredation reset.

My concern is that the light does not come on when the ignition is first turned on before starting, surely it should Always come on at this point?
Check with a meter if the sensor is, to ground, when off, if it is and the light is off it could be a broken/failed internally wire?

An impact shearing the cable used to do the trick.. 200mile trip with no oil ..and my FIAT still survived.. ;)

Hopefully Morten68 will update us :)

Thanks for all the comments. I will messure the oilpressure this weekend, to make sure it is okay. Then the trip will go to the garage to make a reset.

I will ofcourse let you all know (y)

Kind regards
