Thumbs up Jaffa 🍊 4x4 Cross ‘08

Hi, this is my newly acquired orange Panda 4x4 Cross 1.3 Multijet project aka Jaffa, due to the colour.

It needs a few things doing to get it through an MOT:
- left headlight
- possibly new tyres.

On the to do list are a service and a thorough clean - both interior and exterior. It’s filthy from standing a couple months.

All I’ve done so far is drive it home and put the battery on charge.

Plans are taller AT or all season tyres, possibly a little lift and Dakar theme for some greenlaning and some snowy winter fun (hopefully) . But first the basics and a good check over before MOT.

Funky Italian styling I guess. Not many of these models about.

First things first. Interior valet. I can’t bear the thought of filthy interiors. Years of grime from daily use needs cleaning away. There’s always something interesting to be found when you buy a car. Jaffa was no different - some previous owner lost a couple of spliffs in here... anyway almost a carton of anti bacterial wipes later and it’s good as new in the cabin now.

Exterior next.

Re: Jaffa 🍊 4x4 Cross ‘08

Looks nice.

Don't go much taller on tyres as its easy to affect the final gear ratio. That will leave the engine slogging in top gear and not enough low ratio for off-rad driving. Just get some decent winter or M&S treads.

Also be aware that front bumper will cost an absolute fortune to replace if it gets damaged. If you plan for off-roading, a standard Panda bumper and head lights costs very little and will save you a fortune on rare parts replacement costs. Put you special bumper away for safe keeping, fit something easily replaced and paint it to suit the car.

I had a deer go through my 100HP front end. The bumper simply shattered and the plastic alone was £350 plus paint. Standard Panda bumper is £60 plus paint. No rewards for guessing what I now have on the car. Yours also has special head lights which will be expensive.

Good input Dave. Headlights are expensive as I’ve just found out...

Why you need to change your cabin filter when you do a service!

The right one could be a carbon filter, which is grey to start with.

You can get a an ordinary standard Panda bumper for £60 in grey. A pair of headlights off eBay and you have a sacrifical front end that works just fine.

My 100HP has a standard bumper which looks ok. The real McCoy can wait.

Nice. I have exactly the same model and colour in LHD (from Switzerland).
The only other difference is that I chose the satnav package which has a screen where you have the cd slot.
The correct name I think is Goa Orange.
Fire away if you have any questions.
Good luck.

PS: Where is the rear seat?

Wow, never seen one of those before!
Congrats on your new Panda!

I feel exactly the same way about interiors, and even though it's actually pretty hard work to clean a car completely, there is a joy in doing it too. I almost feel like I'm making a car my own when I give it a good once over.
Such a good feeling getting in a completely fresh car the day after

Taken the little ‘Baby Disco’ on a few green lanes - very impressed how capable this little thing is!

Fitted some rather chunky all season tyres which have worked well but worn pretty quickly through the summer post lock down.

Got a side light issue I need to sort out - on first click on the light stalk only the front right side light illuminates. The left bulb will just not. No 12v getting through to the bulb fixture despite the wiring looking good.

My farmer father-in-law used sewing pins to find broken wires. Press a pin through the insulation and measure voltage from the pin. If there's power upstream of the light it will show at the pin but not at the light. You can fix the headlight connector or make up a jump wire direct to the bulb holder.
