Hi folks.
It’s about time I crack on with this old thing, as it's been waiting too long. It was my first road-legal car, and I’ve had it for about a decade, though it’s been mostly off the road for the last 5-6 years. To get it going again, I need to…
- Replace rubber boots x2 on nearside drive shaft
- Replace front brake discs
- Replace brake master cylinder
- Replace crank seal
- Replace head bolts (I renewed the head gasket and re-used the original bolts, so I’m probably on borrowed time).
- Replace off-side door with new item (obtained, now I need to spray it and transfer the lock, window, trim etc)
- Replace nearside door, or (more likely) get someone to repair it.
- Underseal a few exposed spots, but it’s mostly pretty good for an old Panda.
- General service stuff
To spruce it up after the MoT I hope to…
- Get the seats re-upholstered (financially stupid but I want to).
- Give it a partial respray and T-cut the bejeezus out of it.
- Replace gear linkages
- Replace the roof canvas
- Make a better job of the underseal throughout
With any luck it’ll be dependable enough to take part in a few club events in Scotland, and maybe some longer road trips (like it did back in my uni days).
This is the only Panda I’ve worked on and I’m no expert, so I’m very grateful for any technical pointers. So far I’ve asked quite a few stupid questions and the forum has been a big help.
