Seicento Seicento turbo, homebrew Mpi

Introduction

Thought I'd make a thread for my little Seicento, started as all good builds do with the cheapest, most solid Seicento I could find for next to no money.
Needed an alternator and a battery, modified a late type on one with the bolt on terminals and squeezed in an 063

We had a turbo, we had several turbo’s in fact, we went with a CT9, from a Starlet Glanza V, the other options were one of the pair from a Mitsubishi Legnum VR4 (bit small) or a T3 with a cossie exh housing (too big)

Got some flanges cut out by a local engineering place, wanted all the holes to line up and all that

To attach the turbo I cut and welded a flange onto the standard manifold, added in a pipe for the external wastegate, would have been rude not to use it as it was there eh :lol:
Added an oil return to the sump, used a bit of ¾ hydraulic fitting to make the barb (you’ll notice a theme developing), plumbed the oil feed up in the usual manner using the post filter oil pump take off, used more hydraulic hose for this too
This was the end of the easy part, attaching it ain’t no big thing
For management we went for DET3, it was there and it was cheap, does a surprising amount for very little, and fortunately it’s been used on the little Fiat’s more than a couple of times, there’s even wiring diagrams
At this point we had to change the head, and go for multi point injection, in short we got into the build and realized how much potential it had, especially to have some fun and troll some Golf 1.8 turbos.
While we were at it we stuck in some 350cc injectors from a Jag XKR 4.2

And my mate (Driveitlikeustoleit on here) got on with wiring, which was pretty easy! Well according to him anyway, I was lost as soon as that started, I weld stuff to stuff and make things fit in holes, electrics are a bit too cosmic. He’s a bit of a Fiat nut, he put a 1242 16v in a Cinq back in the day

Used an Airtec intercooler from a Fiesta RST I had in stock, seemed to fit fairly well, the radiator is a copy of a Fletcher Mini one, modified to suit the in/out and the hole (rad cap was in the way), had to re-route all the coolant hoses and make them work around the turbo, the standard cross of doom thing would have sat in the turbo :lol:
The CT9 had a water cooled core, we kept it that way, fitted a RevoTec fan switch and a small radiator fan
A later addition is the oil cooler that’s not pictured, it managed to cook the oil in around 20 miles, so it was well necessary

Head gasket no.1, failed on the way back from mapping it (well finally failed), I reckon it might have been to do with a boost spike to 1.5 bar when we test drove it once :lol:
Swapped the fibre one out for a 1242 multi layer, 90 degree over torqued head bolts, and some colder plugs, then mapped it again, so far it’s been holding fine

After a bit of driving it became apparent that fuel surge would be an issue, so I installed a swirl pot, the fuel system was always upgraded with a 4 bar pump from the beginning

That takes us to now, the wing vent serves a purpose, the air filter is in there, ran out of space under the bonnet
Just needs suspension, brakes and some more rubber on the road, it’s a bit of a handful on the standard 155 tyres to say the least

If I’m correct they have torqued the headbolts to the correct settings and then have tightened a further 90 degree (quarter turn) on the bolts I think lol
Cracking post though makes me want to start my project lol
 
You got it, in an attempt to hold it on a bit better lol
Wanted to ARP stud and nut it, Fiat are M9 though so I just went with what I could

Planning to do a low compression 1242 this year, going to have that drilled and tapped to take M10

I'll get some photos of the screamer for ya, it's just wiggles its way around everything and comes out by the arch liner, aimed at the floor, I couldn't be bothered to make it come out the side, it's an underbonnet nightmare, everything in the way of everything else. Took me 20 minutes to get the oil filter off last time, some clever dick put a turbo in the way.

Hi seiturbo I'm having issues with my turbo project, how are you getting the extra fuel? I've tried a couple piggy back ecu but can't seem to get enough fuel thanks

Well, we used bigger injectors, from a Jag XKR, fitted a bigger fuel pump and rising rate regulator, it makes just over 3 bar fuel pressure at idle
For the ECU side of things we first played around with the fuel table but that didnt make it fuel any different, it was always lean. Then I took it to my work and had a mess about some more with one of my colleagues and used the VE table and that was the one controlling the fuelling

I'm using DET3 on mine in fuel implant mode, what are you using?

Just done a quick search, you've done it the old school way with 2 injectors and an MF2 eh?

My old set up was extra injectors with mf2, but have always had reliability issues with it so I upgraded the turbo from a td025 to the gt15
New setup:
Det3 with 4 bar map sensor

8 standard injectors in the manifold,

Walbro 255 fuel pump

I believe I have the ecu set up correctly but same issue no matter how high I make the fuel (110) at peak boost the air fuel ratio says its leaning out just under peak boost, if that makes sense

It's booked into a local place called evotune to see if it's an ecu fault or injector fault

I had that issue with it when I tried to map it using the fuel table, but on the VE table it was totally different, actually put more fuel in when I asked it to

Are you mapping it on the VE table or the fuel one?

The other issue I created was having the ECU in the wrong mode, when it's in fuel implant you can either have it in Speed Density or Alpha N, it needed to be in Speed Density
 
So I just went and had a mess around and had a mess with VE table, swapped all my data over of the fuel one and it's running supper rich, which makes me happy as I'm making progress, out of curiosity what sensors have you got connected to the inputs?

Throttle position
Crank
Coolant temp
Intake air temp
The map is the built in DET3 one
Wideband o2, but it wont do correction on it

Thats what I can remember, it was pretty much wired like the Monstercento build. We based it on his diagrams

Its worth checking the ignition timing with a timing light too, on 0 degrees advance on the ignition table mine was actually running 5 degrees!
 
Thanks for the help, I'm going out in it to see if I can fine tune it a little. Uv got the fueling down a lot and it's running better. I have the crank intake air temp and map on ecu so still need to add a few more but I only wanted basic fuelling haha why I'm having problems I suppose
 
Yeah we went with the lot, pretty much cos we could lol

That and the ECU has enrichments that use the data from them, such as the warmup and afterstart, its not too much hassle to make them work really

Good luck! watch out for pre-det! Mine is a monster for it :D
