Think itís the 4X4 drive train that pull the mpg down?

The mpg should improve with a slightly higher mileage and warmer weather. I achieve significantly better than that, but most of my driving is A roads or MWays

Could be the engine difference. 2.4 is an entirely different animal, after all. But I'm no expert on that.

It is my understanding that, unless engaged, the AWD shouldn't affect the fuel economy. But I could be wrong.

Due to the lack of torque, I think the 2.0 mjd is about 50% higher.

Mine changes up to 9th at 56mph on the flat, then if i coast it drops down to 8th at about 50mph.

If i remember correctly the auto and 4wd adds around 175kgs with the auto being about 100kg of this. So the 4wd on its own is about the same as carrying an extra adult passenger.

If 4wd is engaged fuel consumption will drop, in part due to their being more moving parts, and in turn more friction..... and heat.

Digressing slightly. I think I remember reading the AT9 is a popular choice for new models from other makers e.g. the LR Evoque/ Jaguar e-pace because it's relatively compact and light vs other auto's.

Wait... you're saying the car consumes even less fuel with the AWD engaged?
