RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

Well here it is. After a few years with non Italian cars (boo, hiss) I'm now back in Fiat.

Got a Black 3dr Stilo Dynamic.

She's a 1.8l 16v petrol with he 5 speed box. On a 53 plate and only done 51k miles.

From what I can tell she's had a suspension change, I was told they are OEM springs, but does seem to sit lower than standard

Got a few plans for her:
BMC filter
Tinted windows
Not sure on anything else

But first she's got A few issues that I'll be wanting to sort out first. If you know how to fix anything please reply and let me know

-Doesn't like going into reverse (needs the selector greasing)
-needs front badge replacing (anyone selling one?)
-exhaust is blowing (joint onto rear section (needs moving forward)
-skyroof won't open (motor gear isn't catching, can hear it grinding)
-debadge boot (fiat, Stilo and 16v badges)

But other than that she's a good car and I'm happy to be back in a Fiat

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

So had the EML light come on yesterday during a motorway run from work

Had I scanned by @dombooth using MultiECUscan today and it came up with error P0420 which is a CAT/Lambda issue.

We reset the error and after a 45 mile motorway drive home I've not yet had a reaccurance of the error. Will monitor over next few weeks but think a motorway blast has cleared the CAT out.

She certainly seems to accelerate better now for some reason, but as I texted Dom saying, it may well be a placebo.

If anyone knows more on the P0420 code, please let me know.
@Artermis, any of your inciteful knowledge?

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

Cat faults are a pain in the bottom aren't they.

Have you fixed the leaking exhaust yet which you mention in your first post? It could be that simple.

Now you've reset it I wouldn't worry about it until it starts to come back, hopefully with other codes.

It's say that it doesn't like the difference between the values it's seeing from the pre and post cat lambdas, making it think the cat isn't working properly - which is unlikely. Particularly on a long drive when the cat is nice and hot it should be working at it's best.

Otherwise it could be a lambda sensor fault or a wiring issue / dirty plug or something.

You've got a few weeks until MOT so keep an eye on it and see how it goes.

Just over 2 months until the MOT.

I haven't sorted the exhaust yet, I said to Dom I think that's what's caused it. If there's a reduction in back pressure the CAT can throw a wobble.

The exhaust appears to have just broken up at the connection between the CAT and rear sections. Going to get some Holts Gun Gum on it to block it up in the short term. Pics below are the exhaust

She's done about any other 150 miles and no error lights

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

There is probably some sort of ancient Egyptian gasket in there that once upon a time was capable of sealing the joint! It's probably long since passed it's best though.

Definitely seal the leak as a first point of call.

Yes a leak at that joint will definitely upset the reading from O2 sensor post cat.

Seal it back up quickly before the mummy escapes and wreaks havoc on you.

I've been to Egypt a few times so know how to deal with them.

I've got tin of Holts Gun Glue sealant to put on it at the weekend.

Anyone know the part number for the actual seal that goes here?

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

New issue.

Likes to stall on first start up. Fires up and revs but drops to 0 rpm and cuts out.

Starts up second time around without issue.

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

OK so that's got me a little bit stumped....

There is a risk it's a MAF related problem. BMC, K&N et al filters are oiled which tends to ruin MAF meters being a heated element.

MAF meter is a bit of an expensive gamble to take though, seeing as a new MAF is going to be near the 100 mark and you can't skimp on a cheap repop or second hand unit - gotta be a brand new BOSCH. Others simply don't work. Plus I am by no means certain.

Might be a good time to go see if any codes have been given?

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

So far so good. No reappearance of the EML light

Today I've realised that my Stilo has been lowered.

Parked alongside a 5dr JTD and mine looks significantly lower yayy.

You may be right, but you're comparing a 3-door with 5-door and your car is older, so the springs may have settled more. Also the diesel will probably have beefier springs because of the greater engine weight.

Still, main thing is you're happy with yours...

Yeah I realised I might be getting carried away

However it made me smile and I'm happy with how it looks. So that's a small win. Haha.

Managed to get a few little things done today

Changed the front badge from the broken one to a replacement. Cheers @wrightyy
