Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

Glad it's all diagnosed and sorted, but just to be a bit pedantic the problem was a Coil and not a Coilpack... a coilpack is a single unit that does the sparks for multiple plugs... diagnosing them needs a little more thought !

Nothing wrong with been pedantic. Haha.

Iím hoping itís sorted, the new isnít due to arrive until tomorrow

To be more pedantic, the technical term for these ones I guess is just an ignition coil. A coil pack uses HT leads to transfer the charge to the plug.

A coil pack with HT leads is difficult to diagnose. Did it once on an old Punto but taking the spark plugs out and insulating turning it over. Turned out the pack had failed and blown the ECU.

Single coils a bit easier, just like what I did, interchange the pack and see if the fault is consistent

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

Both new coils fitted. The faulty one and a random one (cylinder 2 & 3 changed)

Running absolutely sweet now. Took for a drive and now codes at all.

Planning 4 new coils and plugs in the summer now.

Yay. New error code!

Sense the sarcasm... haha

P0120 - throttle/pedal sensor/switch position error

Time to strip, clear and potentially replace the throttle body.

Anyone know if the 1.8 16v throttle body is the same on any other models.

Thanks

P0120 = Throttle Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Malfunction. The fault code relates to the primary (A) potentiometer circuit in the pedal, not the throttle body.

I believed it was sometimes down to the sensors on the Throttle Body.

If itís down to the circuit what fix would you suggest?

Strangely, I cleared the error and repeated how the error occurred.

Nothing!

It went all Italian on me.

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

So...

Happy anniversary to my beautiful Stilo, Nero

Bought a year ago today and never looked back. Weíve had our ups and downs and paddies here and there, but weíve pulled through. Haha

On that note, with another year of car ownership comes another insurance renewal and with that, a big **** You to Admiral Insurance! A £500 increase to £1200! Because of a Not A Fault claim and losing 4 years NCB.

The price of the increase is MORE than I just bought a policy through Tesco Insurance for! £428 for year! THANK YOU

Having a look back over my original post reveals Iíve still plenty to do!

Still havenít sorted the reverse gear issue, however Iíve gotten used to it and know how to deal with it!

Exhaust is blowing again and the sky roof still doesnít open!

But hereís a newer photo for a day out in the Yorkshire Dales and hereís to another year of Italian Motoring (aka not trouble free)Click image for larger version

Well certainly think it was time for the rear pads to be changed...

Turns out the driver side rear caliper had seized. Those pads are from the drivers side.

Caliper has been changed as well

Passenger side pads no where near as bad, but changing them anyway. However due to changing the other caliper the handbrake cable is unbalanced and not enough adjustment room to slacken to fit properly. (Had to remove in order to rewind annoyingly.

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

ANDDD... weíre finished! Both rear brakes sorted! New calliper wasnít an issue. The old one caused the fuss.

Essentially forced the piston back, was been a bit gentle before.

Managed to slacken the handbrake cable enough and used a clamp to force the handbrake lever on the car back enough to connect the cable to the lever.

So if anyone asks, changing the rear pads and caliper should take 2 hours max. Unless your car is a ****, in which case itís 48 hours, several scrapes knuckles and the local kids having to go to church because of the amount of swear words used...

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

Today I officially went full chav.

Brake callipers got painted yellow.

Looks subtle behind my alloys, but in time, you never know I might get bigger ones, like the ones @dombooth almost tempted me with..

Itís a shame 18ís would need stupid low profile, as they would look amazing. If only I had the money for these...

Before anyone says anything, this was after the removal of newspaper to protect everything and only the first coat...

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

So had estimates for the repairs. Most around the £500 mark. The garage that did the MOT quoted £590!

Save to say, Iím not paying that much! So decided to do the repairs myself

Got the parts collected or ordered for the following:

- droplink - £21 Eurocarparts (with discount code)

- nearside suspension arm (for bush and ball joint) - £28

- rear bushes x2 - £20

So all in - £69.

Got @dombooth coming round at the weekend to help out as well.

Re: RuSZ' Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

were the rear bushes oil filled? Haven't needed to do that job...yet....is a scary unknown.
Also, you didn't mention what you did with the exhaust leak?
