Uno Uno turbo mk2 rebuild

Introduction

IMG_0550.JPG

IMG_0533.JPGJust thought I'd share my uno turbo rebuild with everyone
Complete strip down to the shell 6 months of welding & bodywork , full respray all over including underneath , engine bay and inside
I have spent £1000's on original parts from Italy

Engine in ! , it was a tight fit , lifted the front of the car with my engine hoist and pushed the engine ( which was on a bread trolley ) underneath then dropped the car over the engine . Then hooked up the engine to the hoist and lifted it into position . There were some bumps and scrapes but nothing too major , I was worrying about refitting it a lot but overall it wasn't too bad at all . Now just got to hook it all up .

You must have a photographic memory to remember where everything goes , any idea how long it will be before the startup ?

Don't know how long to go Steve , I've got to buy and fit a new stainless exhaust which will probably be in the new year now , weather permitting ?, as for knowing where everything goes I've taken loads of pics when I dismantled it , the internet , Haynes manual and good old fashioned luck [emoji4] also I have another grey uno turbo in a lockup I can reference if I need

Absolutely fantastic job, looks just like a brand new car, with so little space to work how do you manage to get your hands in to connect things up ?????

Yes it's a bit tight , I tried to put everything on the engine as I possibly could before I put it in the car , the worst things were the heater pipes that go inside the bulkhead to the heater matrix and the alternator was a pain , I had to take the intermediate shaft off just to get it into place and knackerd my arm up , but it's all in place now

I decided to go with a Forge splitter dump valve which I think is a relatively new style valve and can be set in 3 different modes
1 standard recirculating
2 fully open ( dump valve whooosh )
3 both operating
The one I chose was originally for seat and vw's but has exactly the same size openings as the uno turbo's , luckily

the standard valve I fitted to the gt could be used on vw’s too , the forge one will be good quality and nice you have three settings [emoji1303]

This is incredible.....the Uno turbo is one of my favourite cars full stop and its great to see someone going to the time and expense to do this.
Hope to see it at a few Italian car shows this summer, and if you ever think of selling then give me a shout!

Cheers , the reason I went for the uno turbo is I had a uno 45 for my first car when I was 18 and always wanted the turbo but couldn't afford the insurance . I am going to try to get to as many car shows as possible and drive it as much as I can ( in the summer with no rain ) .

Looking forward to seeing the finished article. Had 2 of these back when I was 19 until about 22. Most fun car I ever owned and seriously rapid.

The gearbox when running big power and the dreaded rusty rear turrets were too much for me with my income then and i was forced to sell. Loving seeing the re-creation of one here and can appreciate how hard it must have been to gather parts up for it now.

Thanks , I hope the gearbox will hold up , the engine is fully rebuilt to stock with original turbo so should be ok , also the rear turrets were bad on this one too , had to cut the rot out and weld new panels in , cheers
