I've just bought myself a 2009 'Fiat 500 By Diesel'.
It only came with 2 keys, both just a regular key, no remote.
Is there a way of ordering a remote key? Any idea on pricing for this?
Lovely little car, what an amazing design!

This post is in the wrong section and wont get viewed alot.

Luckily I had spotted it.

Search eBay for a 2nd hand key, then search for a brand new key case and blade, buy them two items first - once it arrives, strip the 2nd hand key down and re-case it and put the blank (uncut) blade in it, also move over the transponder from 2nd hand key to new casing.

Now you have a nice shiny new remote key fob.
Go get the blade cut to match your existing keys.

Now the next bit is important.

Buy MultiECUScan *MES and a cable kit - i paid £60 odd all in all for a modified ELM and VAG cable with adapters for all modules in the car.

Now you nearly there...

Next thing is to call or Email Sean at Sturgess Dealership.
He will supply you with the codes required for your car, you need these to speak to the ECU so you can pair up the new remote, and so you can program the transponder - if you dont program the transponder to immobiliser, you cant start the car with this new key.

The code is normally £35 ish from most dealers, Sean at Sturgess will charge you £12.50 + vat (£15 ish) and can get the codes pretty quickly, just remember to quote the FiatForum, you will have to send a copy or photo of your v5 log book.

Once you got all this - your just about ready to pair the remote and program the key :)

I did this with my old car - cost me less than £80 to re pair my remote fob.
I still have MES licenced and have a new stilo now and need to replace the key as it didnt come with a remote key, a bit like your situation.

This soloution is much cheaper than paying fiat or replacemykey.com.
You can buy a 2nd hand key for around £10 - £15 on ebay, pray that it works - i just paid £11 for one, then £4.50 ish for a new case and blade.

much much cheaper that £300+ this will cost you less than £100 :)

You can't do this with the 500 remote keys. The remote and immobiliser are both handled by a PCF7946 HitagII chip that's part of the remote circuit board. You cant just move the transponder over to a remote key like you can with the Stilo.
They can be done by a well equipped Auto Locksmith so worth calling around your local locksmiths to see if the do them and get a quote. I do 500 remote keys for £150 all in for new ones as a guide.
It is possible to use a second hand key but to do so you need to change the pcf in the key. Read the memory from the body computer, decrypt that information and use it to write the remote pages and crypto keys into your new pcf. Then either write the new keys id into the body computer or program it by OBD.
