Re: Pandani - 1000CL restoration

I have a full set of those and they're brand new too but like the half sized ones that are on it at the minute. I'll have to contact lukmek again as he sourced the set for me.

Was at a petrol station in Bangor and to get this photo as the opportunity presented itself.

Re: Pandani - 1000CL restoration

They sure are rare alright. I've had a good lot of looks and people coming up and talking about it as well as people driving past and flashing lights and giving thumbs up in appreciation.

Do you know the person who owns the red LHD Panda? It was parked about 10 doors away from me one night but I've never seen it since.

Re: Pandani - 1000CL restoration

I don't know who owns it now but I did know the last two owners. It was here on holiday but the exhaust fell off and it was dumped at a Fiat dealer's but was picked up by a local enthusiast in Moria

Sylvia. The one you bought from the lady in Ballymena for 100, I've seen your UTV feature and think it's great. I was actually showing it to family the other week as they didn't really believe me when I told them about an NI Panda going such great distances. People really do underestimate the reliability of the Panda and it's FIRE engine but we know different. Panda will continue driving when other so called better cars are left at the roadside.

Re: Pandani - 1000CL restoration

You certainly take your Panda on long trips. Mine is somewhat restrained to NI roads. Can't believe someone dumped that Panda at a Fiat dealer due to the exhaust. It was in real good nick.

Re: Pandani - 1000CL restoration

Yeah, Sylvia has been from Morocco to the Arctic to Istanbul to San Francisco and about 3 trips to italy. Getting a bit tatty now so she needs some TLC

The LHD Panda was owned by a French girl who was using it here but I think she hit something in the road that ripped off the exhaust and damaged the manifold and she just didn't want to spend the money on it when she got the estimate and just never came back for it.

Would you be going to any other shows this summer? Would be nice to have a little panda convoy to one as they are so scarce here :-)

Re: Pandani - 1000CL restoration

I'd certainly be on for any days out especially if it involves Pandas in convoy.

I got given this leaflet whilst on a site visit to a farm for work and keen to go to it, I know its MK 1 Escorts but it says other marques can go too. My colleague who was with me at the time is going to go and he's a mini enthusiast.

Don't suppose you went to that Districts car show in the disused B & Q site on Boucher Road yesterday? I looked into it and it seemed mostly to be modern and high performance cars so I didn't bother; ended up going for lunch in Portavogie with the GF instead, in the Panda of course.

If you know of any trips out I'd certainly live to come along if I can make it.

Back to the Factory is being run by my mate Simon but I'm off trying out one of those new Norwegian bargain bucket flights to the USA from Belfast that week :-(

WHEEL TRIMS

I got a set of these wheel trims some months ago from lukmek and although they fitted well onto the wheels I had decided to make them an even more secure fit. Unfortunately one decided to break free somewhere whilst driving back from the Kilbroney car show in June but thankfully lukmek was able to source me a replacement set.

The photos below describe how I made the trims a really secure fit by using a cable tie and super glue.

Simply take a cable tie and cut it up into small 30/40mm sections. Bend each section over on itself and then super glue each cut section into each of the three slots on the rear of the wheel trims.

They make for a really good fit and I was surprised that I lost one at all. If anyone else has any other ideas on securing them I'd be keen to hear them.

DASHBOARD AND CLOCK

A few weeks ago I replaced the black plastic dashboard housing, this was cracked in many places by a previous owner and I managed to get a replacement from ebay which was easily fitted.

I also fitted a second hand clock and connected the cigar lighter which are both non-standard items on the 1000CL. It was so easy as the wiring loom already had the connectors and wiring in place. I also took the opportunity to modify the wiring to the ignition coil and break it through a 15 Amp fuse I'd fitted beside the fuse box, this not only protects the wiring (which wasn't previously fused) but also acts as an effective immobiliser against opportunistic scrot bags that like to steal.

I've done almost everything I need to restore the car and now she's been SORNed for the next 6 months and will be hibernating in the garage. I don't want to be driving it through the winter months; this Panda's for keeping and enjoying through the spring and summer.

I'm not on the Forum as often as some of the rest of you as I have my fingers in many pies, and time is something I don't have much of. I admire the enthusiasm of some of the members on here, particularly Cameron, Paddy (binhoker) and FDNY21.
