Hi to everyone, I'm a newbie here.

Here's my 1995 Panda Selecta, two previous owners and almost 100% Fiat service history. The last owners boyfriend was a fiat technician and fitted the 14 inch Punto alloys.

Only owned the car a day or so, but first impressions are good. She's a little tempremental to start, but to be fair she has been unused for the last three weeks.

Any one got anything to look out for on the Panda? Or know of any other sites or retail contacts in the UK? Anyone know where to get pattern parts (the front brakes will need changing soon). This is my first Fiat!

Thanks
John

What to look out for?

Rust! You need lashings of Waxoyl inside the doors, wheelarches and sills. Doors particularly.

Later models (like yours) are better protected anyway but it pays to be safe.

Discs, drums etc. are available from Halfords superstores ...

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks for that Steve - I figured the rust'll be along soon! Fingers crossed I'll keep it at bay.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Can you point me in the right direction in getting my hands on some Waxoyl and how to apply it??

I've always bought odds and ends from Euro car parts, who now stock some french spares, but not any italian stuff for the Fiat!!

I reckon she's gonna need some rear shocks before long...

Beware. Selecta's brakes are not the same as the standard Panda.

Front discs are bigger, calipers and pads are more like those of the Punto. Rear brake shoes and cylinders also different. All parts are more expensive than the normal Panda parts and fewer pattern parts are available.

Go through the brakes ( find out when the fluid was last changed ) ensure that they are in tip-top condition and confirm that the servo is working. With no engine braking effect you need those brakes.

Looks like a very nice example, with a good history. Look after it, I might want to buy it from you one day.

Rgds, Pete.

Well the starting problem was eventually diagnosed by the RAC - faulty fuel injector![XX)]

I was well hacked off at first - having only owned the car for four days!!!!<img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>

Even more irrate, when I discovered the injector would cost £160 in parts alone!!!!!!

However, couldn't believe my luck when the seller said he would get it sorted and apologised profusely.

She now starts straight off ! <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

I've also fitted some locking wheel nuts and an alarm. She may only be a Panda but I'd be well upset if some scum had away the wheels or decided to 'crash & burn her' <img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>

Pete - I think the servo is Ok, feels like the pads are worn as they lack bite; no real effort is required when braking. The fluid looks like it is due a change. I'll investigate, thanx.

Rear shocks are a tad noisey and the car bounces about a fair bit on rough roads. Not sure when they were last changed, but figure they can't be original - can they? The cars done almost 100,000 miles.

Is there anyone out there like Euro car parts for spares? If I need to I'll give Halfords a go, but would prefer to pay for the part rather than more company profit....

All in all, now she starts on the button, I'm still well pleased... <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hi Pandaman!

Sorry for the delay - I've been away ...

Waxoyl is available from anywhere: Halfords being an obvious example. It's relatively cheap and you can get an optional hand sprayer too. It comes in gallon tins and probably smaller quantities too.

Spray it liberally inside door cavities, under wheelarches (remove the plastic covers first) and inside sills (my own car has blanking grommets on the sills just under the carpets), inside any box sections you can get the spray nozzle into. It helps coverage if you stand the tin in some hot water beforehand to make it flow better.

As long as you're not messy and get it over the carpets etc then you can never have too much of the stuff!

BTW, Dinitrol make several rustproofing products too. I'm not sure of the availability of this though ...

Cheers,
Steve
P.S. don't let the little picture put you off, I'm quite sane really ...

Thanks for the info Pete. You've got me wondering about the servo - the brakes aren't that good (and the engine braking is non-existant!). I've stripped the calipers down - pads are still OK- cleaned out and lubricated the guides, but no improvement....How do I check the servo? I gather these are prone to failure - just hope they aren't expensive!!!;)

Thanks
John

Thanks for the info. I guess I should give it a go and waxoyl her up!

Hope you get your Fiat on the road soon.
