Anyone know? Or are they all basically the same? I'm about to give the car some protection underneath and some pointers in the right direction would help! Lol

And anything else needed to protect the car in general from the winter? I'm a newbie as you can tell[emoji23] but thanks guys

I never use underseal as it seems to trap water, I have always used finnegans black hammerite, its much cheaper to buy a 2.5 litre tin than the small tins and do the whole underside, wheel arches, everything, when fully hardened its very tough.

New cars are galvanised, painted and under sealed, because it works.

Use waxoyl, best bang for your buck in my opinion. Lots of others available. Painting is only as good as the surface preparation.

Hi,You can buy car underbody seal in Halfords for around 10 quid.
Its easy to apply as its very thick and goes on easy.
I did the underneath of my punto, just give it a good clean up before you
put on the sealer.

Be prepared to get VERY VERY MUCKY

i sprayed and painted my under belly of the punto and fuel tank arch

It gets everywhere.... A good thick coat

I wire wheels my rust off - Treated it - Sprayed it - THEN waxy'd

The Mrs car - which is much younger and healthier - i used the brush on type - HARD WORK
but a much harder finish
who knows how well they'll last

Before you treat it (looks like you've got a Mk2B Punto ?) get it way up in the air and have a really good scrape and poke around the sill seams and other awkward areas under the floor. Also behind the bumpers. You may expect the factory protection to have started to fail, after 10-11 years the seam sealant on 90s / 2000s Fiats fails and hidden rust starts to fester. Scrape off anything dodgy with a decorators hook and sand it clean, then treat with rust converter if needed. Zinc182 is a good primer, don't believe the Hammerite hype that you put it straight on rust and all is wonderful. It was a very effective product in the past but like most paints and treatments it's been sanitised and modified lately and isn't what it was. It's OK but needs 2 coats... Finnegan's / Hammerite underseal is quite good for a top cover, I wouldn't recommend Halfords stuff, it's all pretty average and appeals to average customers interested in convenience.

The only good stuff these days is for "industrial" use, not widely available in manageable quantities.
