Panda 2012+ New Panda Cross

Introduction

Had a Panda Cross for a week now, after waiting two months for it to come. I'm beginning to think these are quite exclusive - I haven't seen a single other one in the wild!
Thank you. For my own reference, here's a link to MultiEcuScan, the software you mentioned unless I'm mistaken.

Just picked up the car… That seatbelt warning is really loud, but found that I can just plug in the passenger seatbelt on the stretch between the mailbox, the gate and the house, where I would have to unbuckle and rebuckle three times.

Also ordering a cheap seatbelt extender from Ebay to serve the same purpose.

Yes that is the software and Gendan are very helpful people. There is a user forum there which can be helpful, The bongs switch off after about 3 minutes or so.. I hope the car is going well. I will have to try the passenger belt trick on mine! I have found the ECUscan has paid for its self many times over.

That view!!

Those bars are much neater than my square ones. Bet they are quieter, too. Mine whistle louder than a milkman at 6am.

Yes, the views of the mountains were what I missed the most when I left the region for a few days to pick up the car, but you pay for them in cold and snow, which in turn have a tangible price — electricity, clothing, and a 4x4 to handle the snow in Winter…

Can't tell yet whether those bars are good whistlers, no freeway here.

Roof bars below. This is the FreeRide rack off my old car mounted on new crossbars. I bought the Thule WingBar Edge bars, not the Fiat ones. I had to mount them further forwards than I would have liked so the bike rack would clear the tailgate.

Hi,

I have the exact same bars on my 2020 panda cross. They are the "Thule WingBar Edge", model number 9584. I also have the "Thule Force XT S roofbox", model number 6351B fitted to it for long journeys/holidays and living in the garage the rest of the time.

The bars are pretty quiet most of the time (mine live on the car permanently) but on occasion when the wind direction is just right/wrong you can still hear them (like a high wind noise, not whistleing). I do, do about 75 motorway miles a day for 4 days every week though.

I concur. Just dug out my order, which was says "FIAT Panda Cross 5-dr SUV 14- Thule Wingbar Edge Roof Bars 9584".

Sorry for the delay, Panda and I were away :)
Hi Mark, thanks for replying. There is something strange going on, i ordered this set from a car spares shop went to fit and the bars although one longer than the other were only just engaging on there mounting feet, and we gave up fitting them as they would have been insecure. I see in this thread someone suggesting the 9585 kit with medium and long bars instead. Measuring the gap between the roof bars i have 93 cms rear 100 cms front which would seem to better suit the bars in the longer kit. Any feedback appreciated :) Apart from that thoroughly enjoying my yellow cross 2019 twin air !

I stopped trying to make sense of the Thule part numbers and went and measured my bars! The absolute lengths of the bars are 75.5cm (rear) and 83.3cm (front). It was a bit fiddly to measure as I have a bike rack fitted on the bars, but I am confident these measurements are within a half-centimetre or so. Interestingly, they don't quite match the Thule measurements given here (77cm and 86cm if you match the part numbers here and here.) On my bars, the length of bar supported by the feet is about 30mm each side (rear) and 40mm each side (front). This appears to be well within the Thule specifications, which quote a load width at least 30mm shorter than the absolute bar length (which implies you need a minimum of 15mm supported at each side).

That's a lot of numbers, but hopefully it should help! There's another set of specs here, which suggests the fitting is unchanged for models from 2014 to present, although I note that this quotes two 86cm bars  (I'm not sure if an 86cm bar would fit the rear, although I guess you could easily cut it with a hacksaw!)

Many thanks, your measurements match the chart attached 9584 kit, but your really close to the allowed maximum width of the longitudinal fiat rails for this kit of 940 mm & 1020 mm - my fiat measures 930 & 1000 mm rear and front.
I think i am going to go with the medium large kit 9585 which should just fit and have more engagement. 2 carbon bikes cost the earth and need good support. Watch this space....

@Peter Cross Algarve Does your Panda definitely have the rails that stand 50mm clear of the roof? The specs for the Cross seem to vary by country, and some of the later Cross version seem to have flush rails like my 4x4.. On my (non Cross) 4x4 Panda, the front and rear measurements inside the flush rails at the points the roof rack goes are the exact same measurements you quote. I think on the raised bars, as they 'lean in' slightly towards the centre of the car and are a little thicker overall, the spacing is possibly a little smaller. (Photo shows the flush roof rails on my 4x4)

Yup raised rails

Ok - rules that out then :)
Just wondering why the bars seem too short for you but not @Mark Hurst
Not sure, I wish I had seen the reference number of the bars they tried to fit, ( exactly same design/ model as Mark's, which only come as s/m or m/ l kit, so I can only presume they where the s/ m )

I have also noticed the genuine fiat bars which seem to be Thule , are cheaper than Thule, so maybe that's worth investigating too.
Just a shame here in the Algarve there isn't a car parts depo I can visit and try things for size, everything has to be ordered first with some commitment. Thanks for all your help.

Yes - you might spot in my earlier photo the genuine Panda bars for the flush roof rails, and yes, made by Thule but cheaper! Mine came from a U.K. dealer clearing stock and so at a reduced price.
