Cinquecento My 1994 Cinquecento SX 0.9

Introduction

Welcome to the progress thread for my 1994 Fiat Cinquecento SX

Hello! - I have recently acquired a 94' Cinq SX, This will be my 5th Cinquecento & one I do not intend to split ways with.
I have gone back to what I started with 7 years ago when I bought my first car, a 1993 Cinquecento SX, Witch I kept till I bought a lovely red Sporting... witch I wrote off (n) and got a very cheap S witch I ran out of money to keep. :p

After a year or two on a scooter I bought a nice yellow Sporting witch I loved.. but unfortunately the massive amounts of rust was to much of a project for me, at the time given as it was my only car.

However I return, I bought this car only as a project/fun car and have another daily vehicle, along with a larger budget!

So enough of the blab, here is the beast.

Wouldn't mind some pressed plates of my own! Are they reflective etc and legal to use still? :)

Yep they are reflective :)

Yep, those are the tags! Thanks for the link, will have to get some, or at least one similar to it, I see a couple with the free fitting pieces (sticky pads/show plate case). Do you just use sticky pads for yours?

I don't trust sticky pads, I used stainless allen nut'n bolts! (Over kill)

They are cheap, I'll give them that - I'm much happier with my 1993 Panda, though, always preferred the old box style (y)

You'll see in my signature that I'm interested in some of the older ones. If only I had the money, I'd buy more!

I have always wanted a mk1/2 Panda, there is someone up the road from my house with two, 4x4 on Lancia wheels but its covered in rust(n) an one on his drive way, witch is slowly going rusty (possibly intended to be a donor car?).

Might get one next year If I move some place with a garage!(y)

I have a newer (03-11)Panda, Think the electric power steering an rear axles will kill them off fast now.

I always wanted the Fiat 126 myself, was too expensive to buy a RHD one in good condition as a first car though. My mk2 Panda is my first car, I don't regret it! They're lovely little cars.

Shame to hear those ones are rusting away. Unfortunately it happens, but it needs to be treated before it's too late! Only bits that are bad on mine are inner underneath doors and a tiny bit underneath at the rear. Probably something I can treat myself!

If you get the chance, I'd go for a classic Panda or something of the sort, it has so much character. Feels great walking out to the car park and knowing the classic car that stands out from the crowd is yours. I went to do photography at a modified car event at Castle Combe race circuit today - as I came in, someone took a picture of my car. Strange feeling, but can't beat it!

Your Cento likely has a good feel too it - one in such good nick must make you happy, I'm sure! :D

Strangely, yea it does get a few looks, only 5years or so ago they where so common!

I think the neighbors think I'm nuts spending so much time under it, or cleaning it.

My first car was a 1993 Cinqucento with a knackered gear box and hideous tappet clatter. ;)

I'm sure it will get more and more looks now, the things are getting rarer and rarer! Same with the Pandas, old ones still used to be around a fair bit a few years ago, now not so much as all!

The neighbours love my car. Think they're all jealous ;)

Great car you've got there, very clean for a Cento :D

Another joins the fleet!

Got this little red Eleganza cheap with 12months MOT because the climate control only blows cold, ordered some bits to get that fixed.
I previously bought this car cheap a couple years ago with a electrical fault an fixed it and sold it shortly after.
But plan to keep it for the time being, just need some warm air! (y)

I've been following this thread with interest from the start and the excellent preventative work on the Cinq has been really quite inspiring. I'm up to a three-Fiat fleet now with 2 nice original Cinquencentos plus a Seicento as daily driver (and a damn good one at that!) I'd be really interested to know who you insure your cars with. Have you managed to get the Cinq on a classic policy? Or is it with the Pandas on a modern multi-car policy?

Steve :)

They are all on a multi-policy, my Cinquecento is on a modern policy at the moment.

The Cinquecento costs me about the same as the red Panda, as I have NCB on the red Panda and none on the Cinquecento yet.

I have struggled with getting 'classic' insurance before as it doesn't seem to matter as much on the cars age, more the yearly mileage and garaged or not. I don't have a garage or a driveway even.

Being in my 20's it's still fairly expensive too! (n)

Was this your Cinquecento?

That yellow Cinq isn't mine, but it is a dead ringer- same colour and also an L reg. That event looks good! Was it recent? Unfortunately I live up in Derbyshire, so probably many miles away.

That's interesting regarding insurance. I did make some enquiries about getting the Cinq on a classic policy but generally found that it was either not old enough or, being worth only a few hundred quid, not valuable enough to bother with. One insurer even said about the Cinq 'that type of car is not and never will be a classic', so I guess modern group insurance is the only way to go. (Of course we all know the Cinq will be classic, that's for sure! :D )

As far as i know Auto Italia has dropped the event completely now :( It did change to be called Summertime Classics and wasn't exclusively Italian cars for a few years, I guess the numbers were dwindling and they were trying to get more interest but now its not on at all - such a shame as it was always the biggest meet of the year for the forum. Pretty close to Derbyshire really in the scheme of things, loads of other car shows happen there every year.
