Panda (Classic) 1993 Fiat Panda Fizz "Pandino"

Introduction

Hey everyone, let me introduce you to my first car! :)

The car is a 1993 Fiat Panda Fizz, 999cc engine with fuel injection, only 26,000 miles at the time of buying. Nicknamed "Pandino" by the previous owner, and I'll make sure that name sticks! :D

Pictures are compulsory of course, so I've attached some of my first images that I've taken of the car. You'll likely find various other pictures in this thread when I get some things done to it! I attached the pictures to this post and I've uploaded one to the gallery so that I can have this one embedded!

*Following list is from original post, more has been done since, read thread for more*
What have I done already? Well I haven't even had the car for a couple of days yet, but I've done a few things...
  1. Used upholstery cleaner on the dirty ceiling, definitely needs some more though!
  2. Figured out how to do everything (i.e. parcel shelf removal, putting seats down, seat positions, mirrors etc)!
  3. Cleaned all the windows and mirrors!
  4. Checked all fluids and oil levels!
  5. Checked all lights/buttons!
  6. Checked tyre pressures, which I might decrease in the rear as they're running quite high!
  7. Took out the spare wheel/tyre, gave it a good clean but it is showing it's age, though it's been pumped up so it'll get me home if I need it now!
  8. Took the seal/cover off the heater matrix to remove the forest that was growing within it...
  9. Tried taking off the grille but couldn't get one of the centre poppers off and the front screws look a bit rounded off...
  10. Ran the car and moved it on the driveway!
  11. Put a blanket, a bag, a tool extension and a first aid kit in the boot!

*Following list is from original post, read thread for more*
What I plan to do next...
  1. Clean, clean, clean!
  2. Hopefully obtain new badges for the front and rear as all are discoloured!
  3. Try and clean the garage to fit the car in (or more likely at this time, find a suitable car cover for it)!
  4. Seal doors to prevent rust!
  5. Get some touch up paint for areas where paint has come away!
  6. Buy some Fiat Forum stickers of course!
  7. Potentially buy new number plates or at least replace some screws as they're looking a bit worn!
  8. What ever else I end up thinking of... follow the thread and read for more!

I also plan to go to some Panda classic events with others. I'll keep an eye out, but feel free to invite me to something if you've got something/see something going on!

That's about all I can think of right now! It feels so strange having a car, I'm very happy to have bought a car I really wanted. I've been looking for ages. :worship: If you have any questions about it then please do ask! I'm very happy to talk about my car! (y)
Don't do what I did and clean the rubber floor with Autoglym vinyl treatment, makes it far too slidey!
You can get anti slip material to put under the mats which are slightly sticky so stop them from wriggling about. Dunelm sells it on the rug dept, works for my rugs at home so should be good for the car, they can be washed too!
If you get those doors dinitrolled inside and give it a good coat of polish those doors should last a long time, mine were perforated and the seams disintegrating on one side and quite poor on the other, one got replaced and the other driveway repaired.
Yours look great!

Love your steering wheel could we get more specific pics please
Did you fit the leather cover yourself?

I will take a better picture tomorrow, but I have attached two pictures that I had already - neither of them are 100% specific I'll take a specific one tomorrow if I can :D

I believe the previous owner to me fitted the leather cover as the steering wheel was showing its age. Really gave it a new lease of life and I think it looks great, really fits the theme! Thanks, lukmek!

wish my interior was that clean! :(
It is pretty clean! I intend to keep mine this way, as best I can (y)

EDIT: Sorry pictures put themselves wrong way up, just save and press turn 90 degrees if you want to see it without breaking your neck! :p

Missed this one earlier! Now that was a bit silly with the sliding floor there... ;)

I know we've got some stickyback velcro stuff so I could always try that before I go finding some other anti slip material. Could stick it under the mat or more likely on the rubber floor and have velcro against the bottom of the mat so it grips better? Then see how that works perhaps... :p

I don't have Dinitrol (or Dynax as Vern suggested) but I do have some Waxoyl, says it stops rust and prevents more so should do the job. I've attached a picture of the things I can use on my car with this post. There's some flakey bits of rust/paint on the doors on the inside at the bottom that I'll get rid of, then I can use Kurust, and then I can spray some paint if need be onto it as well. Outside I'm leaving as is. If I tamper with it I'll make it worse anyway. With Waxoyl inside and bottom cleaned up, it should at least slow the process and one day might need some new metal but we'll get to that when it comes to it! :D

Looking clean :)

Can also say if you click on the images, then click on them again they appear the right way up in a separate window / tab (y)

No idea why that is!

Thank you, Pandamonius! I have to say that yours also do look very nice, think I've seen a lot of the Pandas around here now because of the handy "other people's rides" part at the top of the section :D

Huh, that is strange... tried that and it did go the right way up, but the image was massive for me! Oh well, I'll try to stick taking pictures the landscape way anyway :p

Thanks again! (y)

---

Car has now had the driver's car mat secured, at least to some extent... I've put four pieces of double sided tape under it in various places. Didn't move at all while using the pedals, so I'll take that as a success, albeit not sure how long it'll last

Car mats are still staying. Great!

L plates are one the car now. Probably going to look at taxing for next month.

Did some cleaning on the spare wheel. Some sanding down, using the wire brush and some grey primer. Doesn't look professional but at least it doesn't look brown, eh :p The front has been treated and had some Kurust on it. Not sure what I'll do with it yet, could leave it as metal, prime it with my grey or use my red paint on it... while red could look interesting, it would look strange on the car if I had to use the spare! Would look neat in the bay if it went well, though!

Noticed today that the offside of the bumper is not actually secured into the mounting. It flaps around a bit. Won't fall off, but might be worth cracking out the Haynes manual and having a go at putting it on... added to the list of many things still to do

Attached a picture of the red, white and blue in our drive today. My Pandino, my father's ST and my granddad's new Abarth!

De-badged... re-badged! Quite liked my little masking tape stripe that told me where it was level. Turns out the badges that were on there had double sided tape on and weren't even level - likely taken off and re-applied at some point!

The new badges look much better, so much more colour in it now, I really like how it turned out. Got the fire badge on there too, didn't have that before! The fire badge was a pain to get on and I had to use some glue because the sticky back was no longer sticky, and I failed putting it on a couple of times, but it's there now!

Pictures as always - you'll see the new badges bringing out the car's looks in more pictures to come in the future, I'm sure

Pandino left the driveway for the first time since the end of July... been about a month, but now all insured and taxed, so I've hit the road!

Slowly does it, going to have to get used to the differences to it and the car I drive with my instructor. But all is safe and it was a good drive, looking forward to some more soon! :)

Pandino running well yet again, over half an hour of driving around the local area, once I get used to the feel of it all, I'll have to venture out further!

Complimentary picture of Pandino in the drive (y)

Hi Owen, answering to your pm I've used rev counter from Fiat 125p.
CC or SC oval shroud might not look right as well.

Hi Owen, answering to your pm I've used rev counter from Fiat 125p.

Hey Kolza, you're right, the ovals would not really fit the dash so nicely. A little veglia one (like one I've attached a picture of) or this Fiat 125p one that you've shown would fit much better with the car! The fact the Fiat 125 one is square means it can fit right next to everything and makes it all fit nicely.

Only problem I have is actually finding a Fiat 125p rev counter... it barely comes up with anything on google/images, let alone finding the things for sale! I take it these rev counters can be fairly rare, any pointers as to where I can get one?

Can't believe google search isn't helping all that much, strange that I can't find any. Any help appreciated - cheers Kolza, it looks great on your car, hopefully I can find one! :)

May have to post a thread asking about them if worse comes to worst!

That one certainly looks the same as the one I pictured! It does look good on the car :) I think it's on eBay as listed here? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/2620...=9045605&device=c&campaignid=620794543&crdt=0

We'll have to see what Didge3 says :p Thanks for the info!

May have to toss between the Veglia and the 125p one now... that's if I can find a 125p counter!

Well to be honest with you I'm 99.9% thats what I have and I also don't think it is gonna work work with the new engine cause of the way it works. I might have to get a new one, if so I'll sell you mine for less than that one which sounds like about what Dom said he paid for it iirc.

Certainly does look the one. That could work, let me know what happens when you've got it all sorted with the new engine. If it doesn't work then we can talk prices and if it comes with the mounting etc, can work all that out later if it doesn't work in your car, cheers! :)

well it even states in that ad that it only works with 4 stroke engines with points.. i.e. you cannot adjust for the number of cylinders and that its using the dizzy wiring circuit to get the signal. It literally just goes to the +ve and -ve terminals on the coil so it clearly is counting the sparks and dividing by 4 to get a nunber of engine rotations.

I'll whip it off when i get a chance and PM you on facebook or something. Already having ideas about what I will do with the panda so i still have tacho, cannot live without tacho!! lol

So you're changing something that won't allow it to work any more? I know you're doing some engine upgrades, new flywheel/clutch/sump etc, not sure why this is killing off your counter though :p Sounds easy enough to fit...

Yeah just drop of message on Facebook and we can talk about it when you've got it off, cheers blu! :) A rev counter would be great, I have nothing at the minute so just doing it all by ear!
