Panda (Classic) 1993 Fiat Panda Fizz "Pandino"

Introduction

Hey everyone, let me introduce you to my first car! :)

The car is a 1993 Fiat Panda Fizz, 999cc engine with fuel injection, only 26,000 miles at the time of buying. Nicknamed "Pandino" by the previous owner, and I'll make sure that name sticks! :D

Pictures are compulsory of course, so I've attached some of my first images that I've taken of the car. You'll likely find various other pictures in this thread when I get some things done to it! I attached the pictures to this post and I've uploaded one to the gallery so that I can have this one embedded!

What have I done already? Well I haven't even had the car for a couple of days yet, but I've done a few things...
  1. Used upholstery cleaner on the dirty ceiling, definitely needs some more though!
  2. Figured out how to do everything (i.e. parcel shelf removal, putting seats down, seat positions, mirrors etc)!
  3. Cleaned all the windows and mirrors!
  4. Checked all fluids and oil levels!
  5. Checked all lights/buttons!
  6. Checked tyre pressures, which I might decrease in the rear as they're running quite high!
  7. Took out the spare wheel/tyre, gave it a good clean but it is showing it's age, though it's been pumped up so it'll get me home if I need it now!
  8. Took the seal/cover off the heater matrix to remove the forest that was growing within it...
  9. Tried taking off the grille but couldn't get one of the centre poppers off and the front screws look a bit rounded off...
  10. Ran the car and moved it on the driveway!
  11. Put a blanket, a bag, a tool extension and a first aid kit in the boot!

*Following list is from original post, read thread for more*
What I plan to do next...
  1. Clean, clean, clean!
  2. Hopefully obtain new badges for the front and rear as all are discoloured!
  3. Try and clean the garage to fit the car in (or more likely at this time, find a suitable car cover for it)!
  4. Seal doors to prevent rust!
  5. Get some touch up paint for areas where paint has come away!
  6. Buy some Fiat Forum stickers of course!
  7. Potentially buy new number plates or at least replace some screws as they're looking a bit worn!
  8. What ever else I end up thinking of... follow the thread and read for more!

I also plan to go to some Panda classic events with others. I'll keep an eye out, but feel free to invite me to something if you've got something/see something going on!

That's about all I can think of right now! It feels so strange having a car, I'm very happy to have bought a car I really wanted. I've been looking for ages. :worship: If you have any questions about it then please do ask! I'm very happy to talk about my car! (y)
I bet that scratch occured while you was banging in boot lid to push them clips holding the back trim.

Re the Green stuff, go to Wilko and buy bottle of Aquarium Green Algae control, make solution and dip the lamp lens in it for some time. This might help.
ps. make sure your drain hole is free from blockage.
Could be. Can't change that now though unfortunately.

Will have a think about that solution, it may help free it up. Not sure if it will do much to it if it's firmly stuck in there though? Aside from taking it apart completely, I assume that's probably the only option I have for it now!

You can try the algae solution as above or as I do boils some white vinegar and soak the lens overnight
It does work, I did it few times on windows seals. I sprayed the vinegar and rubbed off the green stuff with a soft brush

Pandino got a good clean today. I used my Waxoyl underneath the car as well. I got most of it done, I think there's one patch I missed but that's because I ran out! So underneath and doors are done. I'm wondering if I should buy an aerosol for the little patch and the sills or if I should just buy one of the big cans of Waxoyl so I can paint it on/pour it in... though I guess it may be hard to simply pour it into the small holes for the sill.

I may have shown you the new (old) wheels already but here's a better pic. I need to get the tyres sorted out. These were on an old Sisley that was converted to a pickup a good few years back!

My trusty mechanic is back at it again. "Yup, it's an engine!"

And the front grille look perfect [emoji108]

Cheers! The fitment works quite well, but it needs some slight adjustment as left side is slightly lower down than the right. It's barely noticeable but it's something I'll do when I've finished doing everything else... because I want to paint the fittings black or red as well so it fits in with the rest :slayer:

After building some bikes for my next door neighbour, the postwoman dropped off these handy red clips from Partsworld UK. Finally, I can put my Sisley passenger pocket to good use! I put the clips in as soon as I got them...
19.jpg

I had to give the pocket a good scrub clean, it's still not perfect but it's as good as I can get it and it will do what it needs to do - here it is:

The girlfriend is happy that she has a pocket as well now (y)

Christmas is coming soon. It's going to be a busy time with Pandino, lots of things still to do! :D

Great pockets!
I got mine plasti dip in Matt grey
They do look mint [emoji106]

Got offered some CLX/Selecta roof bars for £35, not sure if I will take it yet. The bars have had a big water tank on top of them while on a Panda in a scrapyard. Might try and haggle the bloke down...

Got on with a spot of painting today. To start, I masked and sprayed the gap in between the wing and the panel behind the wing nearest the door with some racing red. Before, it was looking white in the gap! (bonnet was open when I sprayed, don't worry, that was masked inside too ;))
22.jpg

After that, I masked and painted the scratch I accidentally made on the boot. I'll make sure my garage door is always up from now on! Sometimes when you open it, it opens most the way but not all the way. I must have scratched it when opening the boot when it didn't open all the way. Shame, but the repaint came out quite well as far as I can tell so far :)

Hey SJ,

I've done the doors and underneath but I ran out of waxoyl :( I still need to do rear wheel arches, but where on the tailgate do you suggest is best to waxoyl?

The waxoyl I used was the aerosol so probably best not to stand it in anything too hot ;) I need to get some more, which would you suggest? Perhaps something like this?

This is what I had before...

Or is it worth getting the pressure sprayer or underbody seal with added waxoyl etc? Cheers :)

(if anyone else has ideas on the waxoyl then please add your thoughts here, cheers)

Halfords do the actual waxoyl pressure applicator for about £30 but I'm not sure, seems a bit all out to go for all of that, will think about it. How would you get to the small box sections i.e. sills where you have to go through screw hole with the compressor though, are there any special attachments etc? What could you use instead if you just had the big refill can. I was considering maybe just the can but then comes the problem of how to get it into those really small sections without spilling everywhere. Aerosol can was useful for those bits but they don't last!

Ok that's 1/2 the price get tooled up get the mechanic out it's useful for so many things look on eBay u get waxol tubes then a free gun
With a flexible end which will go any where. The next scratch could be out painted with an air brush
These things last a life time of pandas

I would not bother with the waxoyl applicator, the waxoyl is too thick and you are forever messing around trying to get it think enough to actually spray it. Total waste of time.

A compressor is the best way to go when it comes to cavity wax, but its probably a bit expensive for a one off job! If you look at Dintrol or Bilt Hamber they do aerosols with long injection nozzles that are very effective. More expensive than Waxoyl but worth it as they are just better in every way.

Fair enough then - you say a one off job, but is it more of an annual or bi-annual job to use a waxoyl type product though?

I looked up Dinitrol and Bilt Hamber products and they are praised but there's so many different product types. I don't know which ones I'd go for, perhaps one for cavities and one for underbody (though I have been using Hammerite Waxoyl for both technically).

I could buy another aerosol Waxoyl easily, but by the sounds of it you wouldn't recommend Waxoyl too highly! Any reason for that which I should avoid it for?

My surprise that I probably talked about god knows how long ago was fitted the other day. Ta-daaaa!

For those that still don't know, pressed plates are now on Pandino. Old ones weren't looking so 'new' any more. The screws didn't want to come off nicely, but a set of pliers later and they came out.

One of the old screws on the back had aged so much it didn't even have an indent anymore! The head basically crumbled apart, but as with the rest, came off with the pliers eventually. The other two still had their original plastic covers on though and came off a dream with a screwdriver, one almost looked brand new!
24.jpg

Not that I needed the screws though, as these ones are 'securely' mounted with tape that came with the plates and some special automotive tape my mate had. We'll see how well that lasts, carrying my old plates in my car just in case but all looks good (y)
