Hi, and Welcome, :)

I don't see any great changes to a "standard" car,

but it's far from my field of expertise:eek:
purf is one of the better people on FF regarding the X1-9

I'm wondering if it was a "dealer-special" where to shift cars , a selling agent will "re-brand" a few of their stock cars..,

looks nice and tidy anyhow,
what state are you / the car from..??
Charlie - Oxford - UK

I have not heard of an X1/9 Scorpio before? Cant see any badges

but the Lancia Montecarlo was badged/named Scorpion in the USA?

am I an expert :) Thanks!

As far as I'm aware (I used to have one-- though yours is in USA) all X1/9s were FIAT but bore the bertone "b" logo badge They were designed and constructed by the Bertone styling house.

There WAS an Abarth involvment, in the original inception, the FIAT ABARTH "prototipo", which was a regular sight on European race circuits- but there was no "Abarth X1/9" for the road. I giess the previous owner knew vaguely of the FIAT/Abarth connection so stuck some Abarth scorpion badges/logos on your car

Here is a pic of the "prototipo" which I took whilst attending the ABARTH Club of France's 5 yearly meeting in 2013 with my Ritmo/strada Abarth 130TC. You can find more pics of the abarth prototipo in the gallery

What are you seeking to find out?

The car is a Fiat X1/9. It was designed, and possibly built, by Bertone depending on it's year (see the wikipedia link). You can see the Bertone "b" logo through the steering wheel in your pic. That wheel looks like an after- market replacement, and it has been fitted with an "Abarth" horn push. The bonnet "scorpion" is frankly a tacky add-on from somebody trying to make a "wannabe" Abarth- the actual Abarth scorpion badge, throughout it's many evocations, never looked like that.

The history of the X1/9 is well documented here. Approx 160000 cars were built. They are not rare, but most have suffered from the rust-weevil unless they have been kept in a mild, dry climate.

My own, 1983, car suffered from "softening" of the sills due to the wet UK climate. I've seen cars only a few years old with perforated rear upper wings. If yours is sound, you are fortunate- cherish it, and put the Bertone badges back on it.....................
