Re: Glopsy

Just returned from a week in Yorkshire with Glopsy and she didn't let us down. She's definitely running smoother following her recent long hauls and with the top box fitted she carried all of my families stuff with ease. She also hit the 100k milestone as we passed by Nottingham on the soaking wet M1.
Looking back, it was our trips to Devon and Yorkshire back in 2015 that saw me purchase Glopsy, with the plan to retire her when we returned. It's Funny how these funny cars become part of the family !

Re: Glopsy

Had a rare day off to myself today so set about a bit of remedial work on Glopsy. First up was to replace the o/s/f drop link to try and cure at least one of the annoying rattles. Had to get the grinder out to get the bottom nut off but the new link is now on and secure. Next up was an oil/oil filter and air filter change. No dramas, Fram air filter, Borg and Beck oil filter and some Q4 oil. Coffee 'o' clock now I reckon before a test run to see if I can notice any difference !

Re: Glopsy

Congratulations on the Pass!
Is the advisory on the n/s drop link or something else with the ARB?

Re: Glopsy

Thanks, pretty happy with the result. The advisory is for a drop link, which was replaced less than 10k ago but I guess they're classed as regular consumables now. I had just replaced the o/s one for the mot as it was obviously knocking but will sort the n/s one next week.

Re: Glopsy

Get a pair of Meyle HD drop links. They're much, much better quality than anything else I've found. Almost fit-and-forget. They come with a four year warranty.

Re: Glopsy

Cheers WMF, I'll see who stocks them. The last ones I fitted were from ECP and apparently made from cheese !

Re: Glopsy

Best price I could find, from a quick google:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/216-060-0...MAAOSww5hZGVSK

Make sure you get the HD (heavy duty) type. Meyle also produce a standard duty version for some models.

Re: Glopsy

BIG thanks to WMF, just ordered a pair, save me listening to a metallic drum solo everytime I go out.
It'll be strange to have it 'knockless' again.
Only got to find the courage to stop this infernal squeaking from the fan belt now - it's not the pulley - it only needs a light spray of water and it runs nice and quiet - till it dries out!
Then it's back to sqealin again.

Don't ya jus luv the bug? Always somethin new to listen to.

Cheers
George

Re: Glopsy

My drive belt is exactly the same, squeaks at low revs/idle but spray of water and it stops, pulley looks ok, previous pulley welded solid but no squeaking!! already had a new tensioner sp was going to try a belt next, believe alternator pulley clutch seized but can't see that making it squeak. Do engine mounts harden up as it all seems a bit harsh?

Re: Glopsy

Is the idler pulley still square to its mounting plate (and hence the engine block)? At tickover, where does the belt sit on the idler pulley?

Re: Glopsy

All seems to sit fairly central, the squeak is turning into more of a dull hollow noise, I think the air con compressor seems slightly noisy no change whether air is on or off so I suppose that eliminates the pulley bearings on idle? Whole lot seems to shudder as cooling fan cuts in and out with air con on, down to extra load on alternator I assume. Engine seems to 'hunt' slightly on idle.

Going to swap belt as I have one and see what happens

Re: Glopsy

Had chance to eyeball the belt today - yikes! - it has cracked longitudinally, but, strangely, it has quietened it down a lot. This is weird, cos the last belt split into 3 parts (like 3 separate belts) but that too ran quieter after, with no loss of power from the alternator or any other obvious problems, I decided to do a belt, idler and jockey change and after 2hrs it was squeaking again! There was nothing wrong with the idler or jockey wheels, no slop or slack, everything felt good and smooth. I just don't know how to read it, anybody got any input?
Cheers
