Hi every one I have a ducato 2009 has been coming up with gear not aval. unable to move the van I have just spent $8k on it changing clutch, pump which is the third pump on it. its only done 76000km.
I would like anyone who has any experience with these to give me some advise.

last time it was at the dealer for 10 months as they was unable to repair it I lost my contract and will not take it back to them...

Hi, and welcome to FF,:)
I've not seen / heard of one on a ducato,
but there are several good Dualogic threads on here for cars,

Hi yes i'm in oz on the western side (Perth)
The ducato was the first one (semi auto) in Perth.

Royster, Im in Mackay, I have a 2015 Fiat based Motorhome, its only got 15,000ks on it, I replaced the battery on this becuse I had it in storage and not started for 6 mths, after this I now get gear Unavailable, Dealer wants $9K to replace a pump
Did your pump change ever fix the problem

hello, On my X250 3.0 I was riding and it just stopped shifting on a roundabout. I had to push the car to the side of the road with help from the drive behind me. After I turned off the contact and waited for a while it just started working. But the next day. Same problem. After studying all the Fiat papers available on the gearbox I found the relay that caused the trouble. It's the relay that turns on the hydraulic pump when you open the drivers side door. You will hear the pump for two or three seconds and it stops when the system is under pressure. In my case the pump kept running slowly. After searching through the schema I changed the 12V 60A relay and now everything is fine.

Hi PaulMason. I'm in Rockhampton and having the same problem with my fiat punto. Currently looking at options of trucking it southward for expensive repairs. Also wondering if there's any way to make Fiat pay for some of the repair costs - thinking of threatening an ACCC complaint against them.

Any update on your experience with this problem?

G'day everyone...Originally I had a problem with an EGR error code which MerlinPoly and rayc were kindly able to sort out in this following thread:
2 Attachment(s) 2017 Fiat Ducato multijet EGR error code

Yes, the mice had left chewed up air cleaner material all the way up into the air management system after the 3.0L Ducato Maxi motorhome had been parked up for 12 months, and once cleaned out the error code was gone, but only to be replaced by P2299-62 which has something to do with accelerator clearance/travel.

I had to move the motorhome from north of Brisbane to the Southside on Saturday, and in the middle of a busy on-ramp at Sth Brisvegas it stopped and gave me a "gear not available check transmission" message after I turned the engine off at some lights to clear the limp mode caused by the DTC P2299 fault. I sat for 10 minutes phoning for a towie before trying the ignition again, and it worked, being able to select 1st gear and was back moving again. I got down the freeway to Beenleigh, and after some front wheel slips on a steep driveway where I had to shed the bike trailer, I got parked up on the level.

This morning I tried to start it up and got the "gear not available check transmission" message, but this time the motor won't turn over, as well as an "air bags turned off" warning.

Can anyone shed some light on these new developments? I am beginning to think that the mice may have got into some wiring as I can't see any logical relationship between the P2299 fault and these new faults. I don't have a OBDII Scan Code reader so I haven't a clue what these two new fault codes are apart from the message info on the digital dash display. (I knew the past fault codes from the mobile mechanic who came to give it a 35,000 klm service.) Whilst it is now 8 years old it hasn't done a lot of kilometers so the problems are unlikely to be wear 'n tear apart from possibly some rubber/plastic degradation from standing for 12 months...and the mice.

I'd appreciate your thoughts if you have any, gentlemen.

A bit of an update.

Checked the battery to discover that it's only showing 9.4V of charge.
It's a bit odd in that while it has been lazy to start over the last 3 weeks, and I have had--just remembered--a warning about the glow plugs, and its just 'died' over the last 2 days.

Perhaps there is a short?

MAYBE MORE MICE PROBLEMS THERE. CHECK THE CHARGE RATE WHEN RUNNING. IF GOOD, MAYBE BATTERY HAS DROPPED A CELL.
FIAT REPLACED MY BATTERY UNDER WARRANTY.
Sorry about caps....

Hi, Ian.
Do you mean leave the multimeter hooked up if I can start it.
It's charging at present and up to 12.3V, so by morning it should be fully charged.

Might a dysfunctional battery be the cause of the transmission and air bag warnings?

Anyway thanks for tip, Ian.
We'll see what the morrow brings. Hopefully some blue sky.

Hello!
I have motorhome with 2.3 Multijet 150PS and conformatic gearbox.
Yesterday there is warring "Gear unavaliable" and stay in gear N, not possible to put in 1 or R.
After I stop engine and start again, now is possible to get in 1st and R, but very loud, like the clutch was not disconnect full (only a little) and veichle start to move (on idle RPM). When I activete brake, veichle stop and engine work normaly. When I take brake off, veichle move slowly again. After I stop engine and start again. "Gear unavaliable", there is not possible to get in 1st or R, only N.
I was disconnect battery, but no effect.

I was check next:
-I hear the hydraulic pump (electromotor), when I open driver door or get a contact with start key
-if I have start key in contact position, the gearbox switch between 1/N/R (it was indicate on display and I hear too)
-when I start engine, the gearbox switch in N and on display is "Gear unavaliable", not possible to switch in 1 or R

I think, problem somewhere with clutch system, but where?
Have you any idea?

Regards, Zlati

I guess if it charges up OK on shore power to high 12's or low 13's, once taken off charger, the battery should be OK. That would make it more relevant to check the voltage at the battery with the motor running at fast idle. Should be high 13's or very early 14's.
If high 12's or low 13's I'd suggest you have an alternator or wiring problem needing fixing.

Ian.

Hello

I have an older Ducato 1995 2.5 tdi without the electronic stuff.

Teason I am answering thread. I have solar panels on all my vans and cars to maintain batteries in winter here in Bulgaria where we can get -20 c sometimes and dont have battery issues.

Just a thought as I read of a lot of low voltage probs.

It's an interesting thought.
The barttery in question is the engine start battery. This motorhome has a battery charger which when plugged into AC mains power charges up the 'House' and 'Engine' battery(ies).
I am charging up the engine battery now--its 14.4V--but hasn't finished the charge cycle.
Then we will see whether:
i) Flat battery caused transmission/glow plug/air bag problems
ii) Test 'House' batter charger not working
iii) Alternator/wiring issues

I did buy a small solar panel some years ago (about the size of 2 large dinner plates) from. an auto store and organised to put it on the dash and plug it into a cigarette lighter plug direct to the battery but I could never seem to get it to work properly as a backup when I was out bush and nowhere near power and my generator was out of fuel or not working.
I think it's time for less 'playing' and more attention to my systems management!

hi again

on my 1995 motorhome. ducato 2.5 tdi it has 2 large solar panels on the roof.
1989 ducato I have a 20 watt solar panel plugged into cig lighter.
2 cars have panels from china. about 100 watts..
batters go up to about 15 volts before regulators kick in and maintain 14.4v

recommend them especially for out in the sticks.

I have lived in 1995 m/home for days on battery alone.

Hmmm...I have 2 x 80W panels (8 years old now) on the roof which supply power to 2 x 100 Ah batteries which run the House, and they are barely sufficient for outback motoring off-the-grid as long as I am not re-charging miscellaneous phone/computer/camera batteries too much though the sunlight % of day is much higher there than here on the east coast.

I have considered upgrading the existing solar panels--you can now get same size higher wattage panels--and adding a third panel to beef up my power generation capacity but I am very seriously thinking of selling up the motorhome, trailer, and adventure motorbike and buying a blue water cruising yacht.
The personal qualifier is resolving what's wrong with my Ducato. If I can't establish that, it's questionable if I can resolve a similar issue between here and Fiji!
LOL
