Stilo Mario's Stilo Tractor

Introduction

Well I have always looked at Stilo's and thought they were a nice car and the chance has finally come, (well if i'm honest, this is my second chance to have one, first was an Arbarth but choose a Jag instead) for me to own one, this time its a nice daily JTD Wagon that has a couple of small issues but nothing that worries me really.

Good bits, its a Dynamic so has lots of toys, its the 115bhp 1.9JTD so MPG will be nice and high, it doesn't have horrible leather, which makes me happy.

Bad bits, clear coat peel on drivers front wing, not worried, rust on the sills due to stone chips from the common lack of mud guards, not worried, and it feels down on power but that might be because I have come from a 150bhp 2.0 petrol to this lol.
Well, today my parts turned up at 3pm today, so me being me I couldn't wait so set about and started to fit all my shiney bits, so I managed to fit,
front lowering springs
Front wishbone
New crank pulley.
The old pulley was beyond dead and the garage hadn't picked up on how bad it was and just bodged on the new belt, no wonder it kept coming off, moral of the story, if you want it done right, do it yourself.

So tomorrow I will be under the rear fitting the rear lowering springs and new rear shocks. Can't wait.

Oh I also fitted my new MAF so time will tell if that's sorted my limp mode issue. Now for Piccies.

Pics 1-3 are the old pulley against new
pic 4 is pile of bits

that crank pulley seems a little bit larger than your old one , wider even in the pic is it like for like or an updated part ?
from fitting my belt to mine I doubt there is enough play on the tensioner to allow that much larger pulley without a longer belt?

The new pulley is right and it's fitted and working fine, the old pulley was dead and actually and a bit missing off it making it smaller and removing the v belt groove things, really annoyed the garage never picked this up.

Actually Sussexa, where do I get a boost pressure takr off for me boost gauge???

I drilled and tapped the plastic inlet pipe just before inlet manifold butterfly flap.(easy to remove if you want to shove a rag in to save bits going into engine)
fitted a barbed fitting , taper thread just carefully nipped it in and its been ok for a few years now.
you then run your hose /wires into the cabin somehow , I used the bung under the brake servo (removing glovebox)
I can take a pic if you like , I had some but so long ago I think theyre gone.
also you want a restrictor to save buzz if mechanical gauge(aquarium valve, adjusted almost closed ,tested ok for response then glued tight)

I recently swapped to the blue silicone pipe whilst tidying up stuff, it swaps to 4mm od pneumatic pipe to pass from engine bay to back of gauge as a bit stiffer less likely to kink and I only wanted to do it once.

I have gone for a digital gauge so only needed to get a wire though to the cabin, got it all wired up, I just need to buy a barbed fitting and I think I will do it into the same place as you, cheers. Will get one over the next few days.

This is where I fitted the gauge, went for this type because it's nice and small.

Plan it many times drill it once
I dont have my eng cover on , check everything clears.
I also drilled it there as it was nice and easy to drill and tap square.
You dont want to end up with an oversize hole better too small as long as thread starts.
Best would be direct to ally manifold or egr housing etc but cant be sure bits wont drop inside , i didnt want to risk it.
I think there may be another gromet on that side of the car below pillar, i think someone put a gauge in a pillar pod and fed supply from drivers side somewhere, again i never looked for entry that side so not sure.

Well, get the rear lowered today, very happy, rides well and sits perfect. Highly recommend Eibach Lowering springs mated to Magnum Technology shocks.

Before and after pics for the rear.

I have had fun this week, and finished it off with connecting my boost gauge up. Did it your way Sussexa, it was just easier lol. It's sealed in so shouldn't leak.

well for every victory there is a failure.

so the wishbone I bought, turns out that the rear push is of really poor quality. its fine when cold but after the car is driven for a while the rubber becomes soft (due to movement) due to being warm and is worse than a failed item causing vibration when on power and then the usual pulling characteristics of a failed item. feel like refitting the failed one, at least that was predictable!

Yes, I had a brilliant day thrashing my poorly bus around cadwell park, learnt that the stilo wagon chassis is very very stable and predictable and more than capable on a track, the turn in was so good it just filled me with enormous amounts of confidence and allowed me to go faster and faster. Only thing to spoil the day, the fact it kept going into limp mode due to the boost leak, got to sort this out before the next track day hehehehe

Great pics you got mate fingers crossed mine will be finnished for the next show :)

YES YES YES!!! Some good pictures there mate

Cant claim credit for the pics, they were the professional ones lol.

but, wow, I had soooooooooooooo much fun, just wish I had solved the limp mode issue.

James, I did what you suggested and I have swapped out to a bigger filter, I can feel a difference but not much, but to be honest, I cant get it to go into limp mode anymore, wonder if restricted air intake was adding to the issues.

Next on the hit list, FMIC.

AJ80, would be nice if you can make it to Stanford in July (iirc) get a few Stilos parked up together again as at Brooklands they were all over lol

yeah, might as well, it looks like i'm up there this weekend hopefully, I will give it a go and see if it fixes it, if it does then I will get a FMIC and then drop yours back off if you want.

Don't suppose you know if there is a Stilo in Brampton breakers is there???
