Cinquecento Jenson... The 1995 green sx 899 - 1242mpi 8v turbo

Introduction

Meet jenson... my 'other cinq', hes a 1995 sx I picked up a few months ago for a grand total of £80...

He was originally a cat d write off when it was just a year old.. he narrowly avoided the crusher, saved by a guy that I bought him from.. he needed a new slam panel, new bonnet and bumper, a headlight and a rad, so the guy repaired him.. and put it to one side (the back of his garage) for his son to one day learn to drive in.. soo.. the time came 5 years in fact.. the son didnt want the car so it was rolled outside and left for a year, then some guy at work came up to me and said his old man had a cinq like mine that was mint and would probs sell for scrap.. 3 months later I went to have a look and the guy wanted £120 for it... I told the guy id pay 100 tops as it had been sat about.. he said no.. I left.. end of.. 6 months later.. I called the guy again.. this time he said £100 so I siad id go and have another look... I offered him £80 and he point blank said no.. so I agreed £100 with him and said id be back in a week.. later that week I went back.. and said id take it away there and then for £80 he got rather pissy and then agreed to let it go.. so heres how it looked

Hooked up to an a-frame with my imola just out of shot

He came complete with some god awful green red and grey checked interior

And then there was the engine bay... there were spiders in there the size of my hand... and cobwebs everywhere..

20140829_200617.jpg

And a pretty beasty scratch... no idea hoe that got there..

20140830_171131.jpg

And a couple of stone chips on the roof...

20140830_171200.jpg

And some foliage in the window seal...

20140830_171212.jpg

A few spots of rust unfortunately.. and a rather odd outwards dent behind the rear seatbelt mounting skin.. no idea how youd even do that lol

20141205_1927521.jpg

All the usual cack you get with cars that have been sat up forever...

One bonus of it all though is this... yes thats less than 34100
20141205_195530.jpg

Bonus :)

I originally bouth this to practice using my duel action polisher on.. and then to cut up after for a trailer...but after a little closer inspection ive decided.. its way to good to cut up... no rust underneath.. sills are near perfect.. no rust in the boot.. carpets are pretty clean.. roof liner is perfect and he even has the cardboard sunroof cover in perfect condition..

Just a few little bits of bodywork to tidy up but all in all a little gem.. apart from the mint green color.. but its growing on me..

So... plans... if youve not been bored to death by now...

First job was to strip the aweful green interior that smelled like it had been sat in a field all its life..

And was greeted by..

But a quick hoover and wipe..

20140831_175829.jpg

Lovely :)

And in with the new interior..

Nice clean rear bench that was in storage from imola..

And a set of mpi sei seats that were stacked in the spare room

Re: Jenson... The 1995 green sx 899 - 1242mpi

Next up...
A quick wash and prep ready for the machine polish..
20140912_180846.jpg

And before polishing on the bonnet...

20140912_150647.jpg

And after

20140912_150641.jpg

Before

20140911_190730.jpg

And after...
20140911_190724.jpg

Im still slowly doing the panels one by one.. usually getting rained off or unmotivated however hopefully in the next month itll be up together a little more...

So as the title says plans performance wise is a nice low mileage (34k mile infact) punto 75 engine running the complete p75 engine loom, ecu, codebox and transponder key that will be joined with the dash loom from a sporting something that will be fitted when I pull the 899 engine out along with new clutch cable, throttle cable and speedo cable from a sporting.. along with all 3 sporting engine mounts, sporting driveshafts, sporting gearbox and gear selector box..

Also I plan on giving the engine bay a clean up ajd maybe even paint the mismatched slam panel whilst the front is apart..

Plans for suspension will either be the 30mm loweing kit from the sporting ive recently destroyed for parts.. or the 70mm/50mm fk kit that was originally on my imola.. with the polybushed wishbones and rear trailing arms from the yellow sporting, I might even fit the arb....

All comments and opinions welcome as usual..
I shall get some more pics up in the next week or so once the engine is out and the new one is in, I may even take loads of pics as there seems to be a lack of them on here recently :)

Cheers

Lee

Polishing looks awesome mate, sure is a gem of a find at such a low price too! Must keep us updated! :)

Re: Jenson... The 1995 green sx 899 - 1242mpi

I'll take the 899 cylinder head from you - assuming it isn't tappity. Mine is same mileage as just purrs quietly. Hardly hear the engine at all!

Re: Jenson... The 1995 green sx 899 - 1242mpi

poor jenson... still sat there awaiting funds for a respray... pretty much a rolling shell at the moment, also waiting for the engine and box to be dropped, a new set of black plastic bumpers and a set of wheels..

as he sits at the moment.... in the corner with a bunch of bits that are there for one reason or another

Careful, I can spend hundreds in there. May give you a plan.

Also check out an American company called ALSA corp.

The US is light years ahead of us in automotive refinishing products. It's so cheap out there to, mega frustrating.

Ive actually been looking at a porsche color aswell as ford and vw colors :p cheaper and less 'custom' looking.. I want it as factory looking as possible lmao but with a twist

Re: Jenson... The 1995 green sx 899 - 1242mpi turbo

ok so its been a couple of months.... lots of stripping has been going on and ive now decided that jenson is going to be my turbo cinq...

so whats been going on??

pictures are better then blabbing (y)(y)

so alot of these are reference pics for myself but they may come in handy for others in the future, others are recent pics of the turbo engine :D

so i started removing the interior plastics aswell as the rear loom and all of the boot switch connectors/contact pads

the car was a cat D write off at some point early in its life... the repairs are to a fair standard however i want this to be the 'PERFECT' build... so im going to look into either a replacement front panel or at least get this all welded up properly

how it should be

DSCF2503.JPG

some rot under the scuttle panel that up till now had been missed, so it looks like the front screen is going to have to come out and some welding will have to take place...

and that leads us to how he sits now, propped up on the drive awaiting some more cleaning ready for the new brake lines to be run, followed by some welding.. engine bay smoothing, painting and the engine to finally go into its new home

then the real fun begins.. tucking the wiring... mocking up the turbo.. building the exhaust manifold :woot::woot:

ooh almost forgot.. a few recent upto date pics of the engine itself

current specs are as follows

P75 inlet
P75 38mm tb and spacer (to be enlarged)
Fiat coupe turbo injectors with custom injector loom
t25 turbo ( i think) turbo from a 2l saab turbo
compression matched across all cylinders to 8:1
magnacore 7.5mm ht leads
866 camshaft from a p75
p75 head
mk2 punto block with new rings seals and shells
custom ali 80mm tall throttle bob with 2" inlet and BOV mounted in the bob

Good to see the project moving forward (y)
Is it still going to be poo coloured? :shakehead:

Still unsure of the color lol... im wanting a 90s style/theme with black bumpers.. but im still unsure what would look good... the green is growing on me... all ive decided on so far is that its having a cream engine bay with a black engine, all stainless bolts and some bits of color on the boost hose joiners.. as yet undecided what color though :p

awesome project. can i ask what your using for engine management? this is whats stopping me taking the plunge on my panda.

Management will be the ecu master det3, its an awesome bit of kit and is also very cheap... take a look here for details (y)
