Panda (Classic) Perry the Panda

Introduction

Like all good addicts, I fall off the wagon every so often. I've been in remission for quite a while, but have lapsed I'm afraid.....

So, may I introduce Perry the Panda! :woot:

Perry is a Selecta, bought blind off good old fleabay. He's been named after the last owner, and I think he looks like a Perry? (y)

In theory he's for my friend to use as a business advertising tool. ;) As Andrew put it, I hope it's a bit scraggy or you won't let me have it..... Hmm, well he knows me quite well - it's mine all mine...... :yum: Well I have paid for it & insured it. :D

Quite a few pics are below. There are quite a lot of scratches, some of which (e.g. the ones down the n/s where it's brushed a hedge) I hope will polish out - the worst bits though are further down the page.

Outside - isn't he cute?!

Inside - ignore the spare parts cluttering up the footwell! Steering wheel cover already binned!

Under bonnet:

I don't think this scrape will polish out, but I hope to make it look better:

Bumper a bit battered - no idea how an elephant sat on it from the direction of the headlight?! One "chrome" bar missing - anyone got one?

New horn push needed, as someone has melted and chewed the old one! And yes that's the right mileage..... :slayer:

So there he is - needs a good polish and tidy, but very little rust. Just a few flakey bits under the lip of the rear wheel arches needing attention before they become sinister - no obvious rust on the doors, bootlid or bonnet. :worship: Seems to drive well, although poor old Perry got a bit of a shock when I started driving, as I am pretty sure he's been pottering around at 20mph rather than sitting on the outside lane of the M5! ;)

I think this post is plenty long enough.....
Thanks Jamie.

I'm sure he needs some work, but "smarter than your average bear" I think. If anyone doesn't know what that's from, your childhood was sadly lacking! ;)

I am now sorted on the grille bars, but thanks for all the offers. Extra special thanks to Cameron onemanmade for the grille you sent. :worship: I've only just got it unwrapped as someone collected it from the post office for me (I was out a grand total of about 3 hours last week, and the courier chose that moment to deliver - or not deliver more accurately! Really really appreciate it Cameron (hope the wedding went ok by the way (y) ) - please let me know if you want reimbursing for postage or a donation to Pinky - otherwise I think you are probably storing up favours in lieu of parts you may need later! :slayer:

Still need the horn push (possibly, though Andy kindly offered one which may it may not fit - it's a later wheel), and maybe a front bumper at some point (that's not so easy to change though, so I might stop looking at it & pretend it's ok.....).

P.S. As the new grille's been painted already I might try colour coding it if there are no howls of disapproval! In the meantime I'll either put the whole grille in, or whip a chrome bar off temporarily.

Glad you got it, forgot to tell you it had been resprayed! I didn't really think to sorry.

Wedding went amazingly thanks we are very happy :)

Good stuff - I hope the 4 of you will be very happy together (y)

It's good it's painted actually because it gives me an excuse to try a bit of painting. I'm REALLY bad at spray painting, but haven't tried again since about 1992, as I used to make such a dogs breakfast of it!! Since then I've seen many really quite gormless people manage to paint via a can - if they can do it, why was I so bad...... Answers on a postcard!

For the record I am a big fan of the grilles being colour coded :)

It's not too hard once you get the correct technique, just need to get the right colour first ;):bang:

"smarter than the average bear"

That'll be Yogi Bear and his side kick Boo Boo ;)

Now where did I put that picanic basket.....

Congrats Cameron (y)

Hey! I hope I'm not "gormless witha paint can" - I have a full compliment of gorms' - somewhere in the garage!

No you're not someone gormless being good with a can. I've seen your painting - it's way better than mine, but that's not saying much..... :p

Does anyone have a picture of a gorm? Just wondered! (y)

I want that garage

It's only because of your rubber fetish Jon - you've spotted the Daf and think it may have a rubber band gearbox haven't you?! :D

It does look nice though :) Oh and the garage - chuck those pink bikes and the shelving & you might get 2 Panda's in there - it looks quite wide....

Well I have it on good authority that Perry is driving well. Andrew (who isn't a massive car fan & sees them as white goods) has just announced that he really likes Perry & it's the best Panda he's driven! I think he likes the "modern" injected bits - it started immediately after a couple of weeks standing - quicker than his Corsa apparently. 15/love Panda. (y)

And yes there were 3 rear seatbelts - more brownie points for the Panda.

Hmm, I'm going to have to get Perry over here pdq or I'll struggle to prise him away. The idea was to use spare drive space, not to lose a Panda....

PPPPerry the PPPPanda PPPPassed his mot today!! :woot:

Bit rich on the emissions but we ignored that..... Apart from one iffy numberplate light (a wiggle of the wires sorted that), I couldn't see anything wrong, so no surprise he passed. (y)

Always interesting to see underneath. He looks really solid to match the bodywork. There have been a couple of tiny patches part way down the cill each side, but it's looking pretty good under there.

No real idea what I'm going to do with him - it's nice to have a Selecta which drives really well, but can you have too many cars - answers on a postcard to the usual address...... ;)

Completely forgot you'd bought Perry! Good to hear he's legal and useable, as you've said before, far too many Selecta's dying. (y)

Yes, me too!! Fortunately my list reminded me that his mot and tax were due - gotta love a list........

I'll probably Sorn Perry, as he's not likely to be used much. Still haven't had chance to wash & polish him, though as he's got a temporary drive space in Cheltenham, I guess that's excusable!
