Grande Punto My little T-JET!

Introduction

So the day has come where I picked my TJET up.
Took a lot of convincing that this was the right car for me, had to convince my parents (I'm 19) that I could handle the power, regardless of the endless amount of powerful cars I've driven since working for VW and Mini, (New/old Golf R's, GTI's, Cooper S etc.)
Then it was the struggle to get my father to take me 125 miles to go and collect the thing in Hexham, 3 miles from the Scottish Border, so travelling from Leeds took a good 2 hours..

Soon as we got there, I knew I wanted it, he knew I wanted it, and I had a funny feeling he wanted it too.. So after a bit of haggling and banter.
Here is my 2007 (07) TJET, in red..

By the looks of the car, the Y spoke wheels are standard? Don't know whether anthracite was standard when the cars were new or not.
Also sounds/looks like it has a different exhaust on.. Little bit louder and bigger, also pops a few times!!

Absolutely love driving her and have got a few plans for her myself.
These being to start off with:
  • Some nice smoked wind deflectors
  • Maybe a fly-eye kit for the lights (bit strict on money at the moment)
  • Some 6000k bulbs for dipped and main, maybe some number plate bulbs if I get round to it.
Then there is also, an induction kit and remapping but that will come at a later stage due to insurance being silly!!
May possibly take the front bottom grille off to show off the intercooler but will check to see how it looks first.
That's it from me!!

Keep updated with the posts!
Ciao.

And i dont understand what they mean about the lowering springs either, something metal was rubbing against the tyre? That cars not that low for something to rub! :/

Looks like a normal exhaust if I'm honest. I thought it was just a tip that bolted on but the mechanic was getting anxious with me hovering about.. I just wanted to see the car as I don't often have a chance to see under it.. (Don't want many more either)

But with me seeing the little bit inside the exhaust screamed Civic Type-S at me with the fake tip? ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1403617426.481907.jpg

He said something was rubbing against the tyre and rear arch, to be fair the tyre on the inside was shredded, so needed a new one. But he said he secured it back up, looked like a metal sleeve of some sort but yet again he slid it back up before I had a chance to look at it properly. They also said they're lowering springs and I asked how much it'd been lowered and he said 60mm

Now whether he thinks that what they COULD be lowered to I don't know. But I know 60mm is a hell of a lot and it definitely isn't that low..

It isnt lowered 60mm mate, looks about the same as mine which is on Eibach sportlines which lower about 35mm.

Has someone cut the original tip off and welded a bigger tip on?

The standard exhaust doesnt pop either.

That certainly is a tip bolted/welded onto the standard exhaust :/ the exhaust may well be blowing which could explain the noise and popping.

Deffo not 60mm though, i agree with middo, 35 - 40 if that

I really hope it isn't. I literally cannot afford to replace it. Turning out to be a right shed so far!!!

You bought it off a bloke who sells cars from the side of the road, what do you expect? Well looked after examples get sold privately by their owners or find their way onto proper forecourts.

According to the father and son, they had been running the business for 20 years, good reputation, recognised name in the North East, sells cars all over the country.. The private sellers that were advertising had no documentation at all of anything being replaced, 3/4 of them I contacted were due for a service and MOT imminently.

This car was purchased by said father and son, from a Volvo dealership, who's owner previously bought a Volvo and wasn't using the car. FDSH, lots of receipts of work, MOT with 1 advisory on the front tyre, (which has been replaced previous to buying the car).
Asking all these questions before travelling to make sure I wasn't making the wrong decision.

I thought it would be better to buy off a supplier that may be small. That had all documentation, rather than a private seller who knows nothing of the history of the car.

If they are a business then you have statutory rights which say the car must be fit for purpose. Sounds like you might have a case for getting them to pay for the work.

I've already emailed him the pictures of the brakes which by the sounds of it were shagged to bits, so just waiting back. He did offer to give us a £50 goodwill gesture if we text him my bank details.. Not doing that anyway!

Make sure you stick to your guns mate, i rejected a car under the above legislation.

After i did everything by the book the garage tried it on so i blocked their forecourt with it and refused to leave the sales office until i had my money back!

Cars holding up pretty well touch wood, new brakes are set in, feels better. Still on a quiff about the exhaust, and whether it's been replaced or is blowing, haven't yet had a chance to take it somewhere to get it checked, out, but I'm liking the pops and crackles anyhow.
Averaging 21mpg? I only do city mileage, even on a motorway run to the Old Post Office pub car meet, 10/15 miles, was only getting 27mph, and that's 50mph average zones.

Anyway had a great time at the meet, didn't realise I could pay to get the car on the front rows, which I would've done, since there were little starlets, and other things down there, enjoyed watching the Lassa tyres R34, S15, R33 and R32 have a bit of drifting fun in the carpark..

Was a cheeky little corsa in there too, parked at the front with a 1.2 sticker on the back, then everyone flooded to the car park, where it turned out it was a 2.0 4x4 engine, spinning round doughnutting etc. (By the way it's all legal and organised).

Last night, there was an RX8 that was playing about with me, the Punto stuck to it all the way.. and they're either 192 or 231 I believe? Little punto serving me well unless the RX8 driver didn't know what he was doing

Friends just bought a 55' plate Seat Leon FR 1.9 TDi, and I got the usual, "It's only a 1.4 yours isn't it, well this is a 1.9 180ps"

But I love my punto :D

If you hold some wet paper towel or something over the end of the exhaust to block it while the engines running you should be able to hear if its blowing further up?

The only problem I have doing that is that there is a tip welded on and the actual exhaust is a bit further inside, would it matter if I do it over the tip?
