Abarth Punto Evo - Part II

Hi All,

Some of you may already know me and some of you may not. I have been on FF for what feels like forever. For the last 3 and a bit years I have owned an Abarth Punto Evo and I already have an existing Members Motors thread. Unfortunately its been ages since I've updated that thread and that's largely down to the fact that I've fallen out of love with my car. She has become neglected and is in much need of love.

That is all about to change (I hope). There is no chance of me being able to move up to anything bigger/faster and I don't want to downgrade so the APE and I are together for at least the next couple of years. So what to do?

Since my last post on here, I had the chance to thrash my car in track and two things happened: 1) The brakes overheated and slightly caught alight and 2) the car was surprisingly at home on track. This has lead to the feeling that I should work on improving the APE so that it is more fun on track and on the road but first I need to get the car back up to scratch.

These are the problems:

- Bodywork has a couple of dents and scratches
- The wheels need refurbing (with a possible colour change)
- Needs new brake pads
- Handbrake is a little loose so maybe the cable needs a tighten

Once these are sorted then I'm going to set about making this the best Abarth Punto Evo I can. It may take a while and progress will be slow but watch this space.

Some of the planned changes (this will probably change over time):

- TMC Box, New Intake, Custom Exhaust
- Save weight (new seats etc.)
- Coilovers & Spacers
- Vented brake discs
- Maybe trim some of the cheap plastics inside

I'll try to keep this thread updated as and when stuff happens.

Here's the original thread

Here's what I've already done to the car

- 18" EsseEsse Wheels in gloss black
- Forge Intercooler
- Forge Chassis braces
- Probably something else I can't remember

Here are some pics of her more recently:

Re: Project Assetto Corse

Took my APE to see another slightly faster version earlier today. Jay's car just shows the potential of the car and I've come away exited about what I can get for mine.

Also whilst I was there we got it over the pit in his garage to check on a few things. He said it was very clean for the mileage but it looks like the top mount on my near-side front suspension is on the way out. Luckily should be a cheap fix.

Also got to see my Forge chassis braces for the first time

Thanks mate!

Yes. I'm thinking about going down the Bilstein coil-over route with spacers on the front and rear. Brakes I'm going to go for new EBC pads to start and maybe look at vented discs next year.

Yeah I'm thinking of going for Green on the front and Ultimax on the rears. Would go green all-round but I'm a tight git

-----

Here's some pics of the damage on my car. I'd like to blame all of this on others but this is all me I'm afraid!

Near-side wheel (clipped the curb coming off a roundabout at about 40mph - oops)

Rear wheel arch (made close friend with a wall outside my old house)

Also last week I went back to company that powder-coated my wheels. I asked them about all the bubbling on my wheels despite it only being done around a year ago. They said it was all my fault because I'd banged them when I take the wheels on and off to clean them. I said I don't take them off. They then said well it must be stones I keep driving over that chip the paint. I wasn't happy that they wouldn't admit they'd done a bad job. Won't be going back to have it done again by them.

Here's what I'm referring to (It's like this on every wheel - the rear nearside has this on each spoke):

That is a seriously nice car! I've subscribed to this thread

Would you consider a trip to Walsall to get your rims done? I would highly Midlands Car Care to do a completely professional and amazing job on wheel restoration, and they can also offer a paint protection service for the alloys and your paintwork.

http://www.midlandscarcare.co.uk/

Give them a shout if you're interested

Thanks David!

It is probably a bit far away to travel for me to be honest. I have a place on my doorstep that comes highly recommended and offers the same kind of service. Just need to get a few other things out of the way and then I'll be booking it in.

Re: Project Assetto Corse

Quickie update:

Brake pads have been ordered. Went for EBC green stuff on the front and Ultimax for the rears.

I also will be removing the Forge intercooler soon and going back to the original version. This is an exchange for a used set of koni FSDs which is great news for me. At the same time I'll be replacing the broken top mount.

I've also got some dark gold plasti dip coming to play with. Never used it before so just planning to experiment a little.

Pics will follow once fitted
