Grande Punto My 2008 Eleganza :D

Introduction

I just thought I'd share a picture of my pride and joy. I've had it just over a month, and it's absolutely superb!! :D
Beautiful car mate, I can see why you take so much pride in it.

I've thought about your comment from a while back, perhaps when the time comes (hopefully years yet from my Panda) and I'm looking for my next Fiat a Punto could be an option ;)

They look much more premium and expensive than any of the more expensive competitors in the class. Gotta love Fiats. Good to see another fan who actively comes on the forum! Thought I'd check out the pics of your car! :slayer:(y)

Thank you very much mate, it's nice to hear from someone who understands why I like it so much. Even on this forum, certain people make comments to me about being attached to it.

After I'd put the deposit down on it, I looked on howmanyleft, and found that Fiat only sold about 3000 Grande Punto Eleganzas in this country, so to end up buying 1 unintentionally was quite a miracle! :)

Like yourself with your Panda, I hope to keep this car for as many years as I can, then when the sad day comes that I have to part with it, I intend to replace it with my 3rd Fiat! :)

What's an Eleganaza? I can't seem to find any information on it except that it seems to have climate controls. ?

The Eleganza was the top model 5dr, and they had dual zone climate, rear parking sensors, Blue&Me bluetooth system with integrated USB socket, and plush velour upholstery all as standard. :)

Sounds divine!

Is any of that retro-fittable into a non-eleganza? Can't imagine the electronic build would stray too far away between all GPs.

I'm interested in your upholstery and parking sensors, have you got an interior picture?

Apologies the picture is blurry, but there's the interior. I think you'd be best off trying to find an Eleganza, as I'd imagine it would be a lot of work fitting them to a different model.

Thanks, appreciate the picture regardless of quality, satisfies my curiosity! ?

Honestly had no mind to, was more curious! Happy enough with my no frills 1.2 ?

Fair enough, lol! I didn't go out of my way to get an Eleganza, I just saw it advertised by a reputable dealer for a price I just about afford when I did an autotrader search for a Grande, lol! :)

Well, today marks 2 and a half years since I picked the beast up, so I thought I'd post an update on here.

To date, I have covered 12,500 miles in it, and I still absolutely love driving it, and it's range of capabilities still leaves me extremely impressed.

I'd wanted a Grande Punto for over 8 years when I bought this 1, and I can honestly say that it was well and truly worth the wait, lol! :D Fingers crossed, I'll be able to keep it for several more years yet. :)

I have an Eleganza as well - as you say they are fully loaded, but one thing they haven't got is front fogs.

Mine, at least (and perhaps the others?) includes the wiring in the wiring loom - so I have been looking to see if the original system can be retrofitted. This is normally not advised, because the fog light switch connects to the body computer, and if the body computer knows there are no front fogs, it won't turn them on.

But at least one forum member says that he has been able to reset the BC with multiecuscan, and then simply install another Fiat switch, fuse, relay and lights. I'm starting to try this myself....

By the way, don't worry as this is normal and happens over time. Mines has one somewhere too (and my MOT is on Friday!).

I can't imagine the Punto exhaust costing much more than the Panda. £55 on eBay for a complete kit minus the catalytic converter. Not bad eh?

Do you need the fog lights though? Can't say I've found them handy, and safety wise you're headlights are okay and some people drive around with their lights off anyway! :slayer:

Who can tell if they are useful until they have them?

Normally the Puntos are only fitted with the foglight wiring if they have the lights - but my car has the foglight wiring in place, so I thought I would try putting them in. If you don't have the wiring you are best advised to fit a separate switch and cable.

Oh, I know it's normal wear and tear/age. It's booked in for next Friday. I just hope it's the actual pipe after the cat, rather than the manifold/cat.
