500 My New (to me) 500

Introduction

So very excited to have joined the club of 500 owners!

I had a bit of a crazy time getting it. I live in Devon and went to Kent on the train to collect it. I got ten minutes down the road and it broke down!! Luckily, I'd taken out full cover and breakdown etc, so it was towed to a garage near my home. After a week of being in the shop, fixing the lambda sensor and negotiating with the garage that sold it to me to pay, it finally arrived with me last night.

First thing this morning, I have changed the gear knob and gaiter. I can't say if it will be the first of many adaptations, as it's the first time I've ever done anything like it and was the only thing I really wanted to change... for now!!

It's been great so far to read the guides and see such a helpful community!

How many miles has it done? Steering wheel looks rather 'used' 65k and my steering wheel looks brand new

I think it's just the light on it in the picture; it looks fine in reality. It's done 64k also. I'll try and get another picture in flatter light. It'll probably do the whole interior justice. I just excitedly took some crappy phone shots this morning! :)

Congrats on your new purchase. Devon to Kent isn't exactly 5 minutes down the road lol! Price wise, was the journey worth it, taking into account your train fare etc?

I've travelled far and wide a couple of times to buy brand new cars so I know what it's like to sit there wondering what your new purchase will bring. Clearly you had an unfortunate experience just after leaving the garage, but you could see it as a huge bonus in a way. For a start, you didn't put a load of extra miles on the clock driving back from Kent as the recovery truck did the work and secondly, you were hit with the fault very soon after buying which you have at least got sorted.

I hope it wasn't too painful getting the garage to stump up paying for the repairs to the vehicle? At least you bought it from a garage because had you bought privately and that happened, you'd probably be trying to resolve it now.

Clearly that is a cherished plate affixed to the car, so what year is it? Did it come with any Fiat service history?

I went to stay with a friend in Kent, so I kind of saw the collection of the car as an added bonus! The train fare was only about £30, so not a big payout. It's 2008 but the plate came on the car... Not sure whether to sell it or not really, as it doesn't really make much difference to me.

I'm glad of saving the miles, although I'm not sure the low loader driver was as impressed!!

The dealer was not all that happy as my garage put a decent, warrantied dealership part on and they apparently wanted them to put a second hand part on. Thankfully they gave in, but I got the impression they didn't have much choice!

All good now though. Another plus point is having a new part done straight away. At least I don't have to worry about that.

As for service history, there's a couple missing, but mostly intact. I'm going to get a service done next month after I've sold my current car. Plus remapping. Hopefully it'll be right as rain then!
