Ok, so my old fiat use to run great once the carburetor was primed with starter fluid spray. I knew it would be awhile since I'd start it again so I ran out all the gas and put some stabile in the tank. Well it's been two years and I decided to sell it. I bought a new battery, primed the carburetor and it ran long enough to use up the gas prime and died. I had my dad check to see if fuel was coming from the pump and it was not. So we took off the hoses and blew through the lines and into the tank and there wasn't anything clogged. Well I took off the old fuel pump and ordered a new one. There were two types, the only apparent difference is one hose hooks from the bottom and the other comes out of the top to go into the fuel filter and then carburetor. On the old one both lines go into the top. When I was scraping the gasket off the mount I noticed a small chunk missing around where the fuel pump mounts. I've got a parts car so I replaced the "fuel pump mounting block" as I call it with the one that wasn't cracked. After all is said and done the new fuel pump got a little gas in it but would not push it through. The car would stay running though as long as gas was being fed into the carburetor. Oh and yes, there is a half a tank of gas in the car. I started reading the repair manual I have and it does mention that the way the fuel pump is adjusted is by using a different size gasket. The only one I have is the one that came with the new fuel pump.
