Panda (Classic) Chris's 1994 Panda Colour Resto Mod

Introduction

My Slammed Classic Panda

hey, im chris from south wales been lurking on here for a while but now seeing as ive started work on the Panda i though id let you in on it ,The cars a 1994 panda 1000 fire Colour , my grandad bought it from new (my nan chose the colour) , it spend most of its life in a garage although it spent a year in my brother ownership so theres the odd dent , but apart from that , rust is minimal and its got an immaculate interior.
my aim is to do a resto mod as the americans would say, restore the whole car , Standard interior, respray, cleaned bay, lowered suspension and nice, possibly widish wheels, possibility by widening the body, maybe
atm heres how it stood up untill last week , only real issues are that its been off the road for two years ,at the time the front caliper was sticking and the rear beam center bush was knocking its balls off. apart from that its a solid , unwelded , one owner car with 66k on the clock.
Nice progress! I like the new fuel tank straps too, very nice! I am doing mine soon too, though still undecided as to whether to get metal ones or do the seat belt webbing

Thanks , I made mine , let me know if you want stainless steel ones as I can supply the metal strips ready to be bent to shape

What's the seat belt webbing way?

I will let you know :)

The seat belt webbing way (as told to me by dragonman, but I may not tell it as well or as detailed) is basically to get two lengths of seatbelt material, use a hot screwdriver to force a hole through one end for one of the bolts which hold the fuel tank straps. The heat should "cauterize" the material so it doesn't weaken, put the bolt through, using a bigger washer if necessary. Pull the material tight under the tank in the same direction as the metal strip would originally have went and mark where the bolt hole needs to be made. Repeat the hot screwdriver process, fit the bolt and bigger washer and then that's one strap done, repeat the process for the other strap :)

Fizzle's had this fix for over a year and no problems and passed an mot too (y)

Grumbleweed's had these straps on for about 15 years and no issues. Incidentally for anyone doing it I recommend using a rectangular piece of drilled aluminium and doubling the belt back over it and bolting through. Less chance of it slipping & ripping.
Got a new tank & straps now so they'll be off soon. See if the oem straps last as well.

Think I'll stick with my stainless , I'm like a magpie , needs to be shiny lol

Had a chance to have a good look at the engine , I knew that the rocker cover gasket was leaking but looks like the crank seals leaking too, also looks like the sump plugs leaking too but there's oil everywhere tbh

Also been looking for a set of these? They're to secure the brake lines on the rear beam , I need 4 but can't find any , anywhere , any have any ideas? Link me up!

Cheers

snip the loose ends off the original holders, use those as spacers under the lines as before, and tie wrap over the top to hold them in place. If I remember right they're suitably profiled over the top to stay in place with a tie wrap anyway.

well thought i'd do a quick update

not really done too much due to work commitments but picked up a few things

big thanks to Stuartl for the lhd rear light so i now have all red rears

also picked up some pirrelli p-slots

trial fit

aiming to get them looking like this

also got given this , 40,000 miles , one owner , currently doesn't run, and has no keys , but it was free so i cant moan

comments welcome!

Just to clarify, I liked the post for the wheels - not for the Punto ;)

cheers, cant say im much of a punto either lol im in love with the wheels..

... Punto lump going in?

Well, someone had to ask.

nope keeping the panda engine as it is , once the cars back how i want it and up and running the next engine that'll go in is a uno turbo engine ,but thats no time soon

little update

split the engine, not planning on doing anything major just wantted to check the internals and get it back together

also any idea if this pipe can be removed? it seems to spin but i cant remove it?

also made some more progress on the rear beam tie bars

grinded down my insert slightly as they were 20mm o/d but the bar is 19mm i/d

and it fits like a glove

just need to put one either end , weld them up and put a locking nut on and were cooking !!

comments welcome.
