Panda (Classic) Chris's 1994 Panda Colour Resto Mod

Introduction

My Slammed Classic Panda

hey, im chris from south wales been lurking on here for a while but now seeing as ive started work on the Panda i though id let you in on it ,The cars a 1994 panda 1000 fire Colour , my grandad bought it from new (my nan chose the colour) , it spend most of its life in a garage although it spent a year in my brother ownership so theres the odd dent , but apart from that , rust is minimal and its got an immaculate interior.
my aim is to do a resto mod as the americans would say, restore the whole car , Standard interior, respray, cleaned bay, lowered suspension and nice, possibly widish wheels, possibility by widening the body, maybe
atm heres how it stood up untill last week , only real issues are that its been off the road for two years ,at the time the front caliper was sticking and the rear beam center bush was knocking its balls off. apart from that its a solid , unwelded , one owner car with 66k on the clock.
also picked up a new washer bottle (sky remotes there so you can see the scale ), seeing as the old ones too big and the spare wont be there any more as the bay is getting cleaned up and im aiming to tuck all the wires .

WOW you have sky in your workshop!!  Well jell!!!

This Panda is going to be very smart when she's done, can't get over how cool the colour is.

I wish I had sky in there! Although I doubt I'd get much done then ....

Yeah should have the rear end back together in a month or two , then I've gotta tackle the front end , aim to have it back on the road before the sun disappears .

right got a few things done over the last few days

painted the fuel tank, looked a bit stained from the old rusty straps so got hammerite out and it looks like new.

also finished painting the rear beam up, think it might need 1 last coat but im happy how its come up

also started clearing the engine bay ready for pulling the engine out .

and seeing as it was raining i thought id take the headlights out and split them as ill be painting the inserts black to add a bit of definition to the front end

also been busy buying:

new handbrake cable
new rear brake cylinders
new rear shoes
rocker cover gasket
and lots more stainless bolts

next on the list is to weld up a hole under the rear quarter, get it all painted so i can get the fuel tank back in and get the engine out.

Bunnys coming on very well..(y)
cheers, its coming along.

Wow, and I thought my panda was purple!
yeah , supposedly its called Borganville Red , but cant find anything about it lol its definitely not red tho haha

Nice progress (y) with the rear axle in silver it looks like you've had it galvanised!

yeah im impressed how well it came out, although that is 2 days of grinding, sanding, priming and painting haha

Seriously , the dedication and work is top drawer..(y)....it's just that on the forum if you haven't named the car within a week we get to do it. The number plate in the angle of the pic reads Buny...yeah, not a great name.

haha! cheers , i did wonder what you ment , we named him Leroy years ago to try and butch him up a bit haha

well once again i've been busy (making most of my time off)

first thing was to combat the wheather! gazebo time!

then got stuck in attacking any rust with a wire wheel , then lightly sanded everything, giving me the perfect prep for the underseal.

coverage is pretty good as im brushing it on but becasue im fussy and dont like the look of the brush strokes in then going over it all with a sponge and dabbing it so i get a uniform finish ,ill probably put another layer on while everythings out.

Hi Chris, I've a question I've been wanting to ask another Panda Colour owner. On my set of keys for my colour, I've got one black key and one blue key. I've always wondered why the blue one, as all my other pandas have just black keys? It wasn't until I was talking to another forum member about it and they suggested it might be because it is a Colour edition? Sort of makes sense as they have the coloured switches and gauges etc. basically what I'm asking in a long winded way are what colour are the keys for your, err Colour??

Cheers, I just used a heat gun , warmed it up evenly for about 15 minutes then slowly prised it apart, surprisingly easy , I've tried the oven method before but it didn't turn out too well haha

Brilliant work, It will be underseal time for Fizzle again soon - touch up before the MOT and the works after (y)

I hope to never have to do this again lol, my hips are still bruised from laying on my side all day! Haha

My keys are blue too , although I've just had to buy new locks, so they'll now be black :( but I'm guessing the blue one was the main and the black was possibly there as the spare/ second? .

Thanks for the comments guys!

Right!not done loads lately as i had to go on holiday, needs must .

got a few things done today tho

first thing was finishing off the headlights
as you can see ive already split them so next thing was to mask them off and gave them a rub down with a scotch pad to give me a good key

then 3 coats of high temperature paint

then i stripped the old sealant off, ran a bead of tiger seal around the housing and job done.

this is roughly what theyll look like on the car , although im currently after a set of clear side repeaters.

then i got busy painting the centre rear beam mount

brake backing plates

and heat sheild and exhaust mounts

also seeing as the rear beam mounts are a state as you can see above ,
ive decided to make my own using rose joints ,
as soon as my tubing turns up i can get welding and ill let you know how i get on.

comments welcome :)
