Hi guys,

I picked up an 04 broom yellow punto yesterday for £950 plus my mk2 blue punto in part exchange. I was sick of engine problems so I decided to get rid :)

It has 70k on the clock and runs like a dream punto now. I gave it a quick service today, new oil, oil filter etc :)

Some of the paint has slightly faded so I'm after a really good guide on how to wash and polish to maybe bring some colour back? Also what products should I be using?

I am also after a few bits and bobs if anyone has any laying around. Broom yellow mirrors, abarth skirts, sporting badge?

Cheers, Danny :)

Looks tidy. I don't think I've ever seen a yellow mk2b with that style front bumper!

I think theres a guide on how to paint your mirrors. I doubt you'll be able to find any yellow ones for sale

Am i right in saying thats an active sport?

As the bumper is incorrect for the trim level - thats an active Fog bumper

It should have a sporting front bumper like mine in MM thread (See Sig)

However tho - its fine for now so i'd leave it, one in a million eh :)

As for fading paint, yellow does fade, and show muck and bugs up like REALLY BAD

Get used to washing on a regular basis....

A decent Fine polish on a polisher should have you sorted very shortly indeed!

Correct, it is a 1.2 active sport 8v.

I didn't know about the bumper, I'll check yours out :)

I'll try and give her a good wash and polish today then :) what polish and wax do you use?

I've noticed the brake warning light will come on and go off a few times whilst driving. It never stays on for long.

I have brake fluid in and the handbrake is fully off. Could the pads need changing or do I have a faulty sensor?

Could be any, least likely a faulty sensor I think..try removing the brake fluid filter and cleaning it with white spirits and then top up fluid if required,

Failing that check disks and pads thickness, and try removing the handbrake sensor to see if the light stays out

Although I would think it would be the brake fluid/filter as I have just had this exact problem

Cleaned and drained the filter but the light still shows but not as often? It only show at low speeds. Next check?

Did you clean it thoroughly? Only reason I say is I cleaned the filter first and the problem still persisted, checked all other possibilities and problem was still there..so I took the filter out and left it fir an hour soaked in white spirits..pumped the brake, put filter in and even though the brake fluid appeared high as I topped it up it kept going down, not by much mind but filled to max and this solved it.

If you have cleaned it properly, you can either remove your front wheels and check the thickness of the pads and disks or option 2 is to remove the little sensor that plugs into the handbrake and go for a drive and see if the light comes back or stays off.

Report back when, if you try and if these methods..maybe you should try the handbrake sensor first as might be less hassle and eventually the cheaper option

With the brake light issue, make sure you identify which light it is and therefore whether it'sa handbrake indicator, wear indicator or fluid indicator.

I don't know about Puntos, but Tipos / Bravas / Bravos have a combined brake and clutch hydraulic circuit and when the clutch slave cylinder starts leaking (as they all do eventually / regularly ....) then the fluid level goes down and you get an intermittent dash fluid warning....

Nice car BTW, but the interior on the Active Sports was always a bit "Marmite" !!
