Cinquecento The Doomed Cinq

Introduction

This is my fifth Cinq and all have met their maker under my ownership; written off, stolen or broken for parts. I don't expect this one to fair any better

I bought this Cinq S off a forum member and it already had sei sporting seats, center console and cinq sporting wheels and suspension. The kid had taken really good care of it, clean/polished etc and suspension wise it was like new. Its dirty in the pics but its winter so let me off

The bodywork is a little battle scarred but its totally solid with zero rot anywhere. The paint is hilariously soft even for a Fiat, it pretty much gets scratched by the wind! I live near/in London so ropey bodywork is an advantage tbh as its currently my daily.

I chucked the decent bits on it from my last cinq which was a dreadful ebay purchase that was broken for spares within a week of me owning it.

It now has a late P60 engine with the 866 cam, gmax lowering springs, some strongflex engine mounts, sporting clocks with mileage corrected and a standard sporting exhaust system. I've changed it back to orange indicators (from sporting stuff) and will be taking the spoiler off the back when I get motivated.

I fitted a sporting front ARB to it which has highlighted that the nankangs its on are dogs**t! Understeer is now the only handling trait it has, I suspect the springs are too stiff and not helping as well.

Plans for immediate future:
- Fit uprated brakes and pads off my last cinq
- Make and fit rear arb
- Get some tyres which aren't hedge magnetic
- Get and fit a bigger bore throttle body
- Remove rear spoiler

Ongoing plans:
- Fit P75 lump from a donor car I have
- battery in boot
- boost
- 14 inch steels which I have but would probably need banding as they're only 5.5j
- Get better springs + dampers

The car is so fun to work on and parts are so cheap that it gets way more attention from me than it ought to. Needless to say its brilliant fun to drive, there isn't much like a hot cento

The winter grit etc has totally finished off the tyres on my sporting rims

I have some punto 5.5j ET35 14 inch steel wheels which I would rather use than get more 13 inch tyres. They have decent tyres but are 70 profile so way too tall.

I have punto gt brake setup on the way to me and providing the steels fit over them after a trial fit I will be on the hunt for some tyres.

I've been through the online calculators (car bibles etc) for days and have a fairly decent understanding of what will fit so am not needlessly fishing but I'm interested in your opinions

Has anyone run 185/55/14 on a 5.5j rim? If so what were your experiences? Theres a much better choice of tyres than the 185/50/14 which I think is probably ideal.

Any experiences would be appreciated. Thanks

Ah. That's just the info I was after and was sort of hoping I wouldn't hear

I'll have a look for the 6J's, offset may be an issue I'd have thought with those. Was surprised that the ones I had were only 35

With 6j I'd be on the money for 195/45 wouldn't I, pretty decent choice and price is much the same.

It seems hard to get info on sizing of steel wheels, most people selling them on ebay etc have little or no interest

Poor little car's life has been cut shorter than I'd imagined.

A woman backed into it in her fiat 500, its gone to the insurance company but I will be amazed if they decide to fix it.

Bit gutted really, was just about ready to start fitting all the bits I'd been collecting for it, now will have to wait and see what happens and probably going shopping for a new shell.

Might be an excuse to do something a bit madder and has forced me to get another of my cars road legal so swings and roundabouts

Yeah I have the car back. Damage is only cosmetic.

Thing is that rear panel is pretty badly kinked. The body is certainly not the straightest anywhere else in terms of panels and the paints not great either.

May be more cost effective to start with a new shell and get a better end result.

Not really sure yet. For the time being a new rear lamps going on.

Annoying more than anything, still plenty of options

to be fair, my cinq turbo had damage almost the same on the drivers side - was never an issue for mot's and the like and most people on here never knew cause there just is any photo's from that angle.. So i doubt its imperative that its sorted right away.

I guess though the best plan of action would be to go in search of rust elsewhere, the usual places mainly. If its all still solid then i would defo keep it - if not, and it pains me to say it, might be easier for you to cut your losses and get another one - problem here is actually finding a really nice shelled cinq in the first place.

That's the main thing going for the shell, zero rot anywhere.

It does appear that chaos is right, jtd puntos do run 6j steels. So on the hunt for some of those but may need to admit defeat and use the 5.5j ones as I desperately need new tyres.

New rear lamp fitted and finally got some decent rubber on it. I'll cable tie the bumper up to stop it flopping about but doubt I'll waste anymore time or effort on its appearance. Washed it quickly but trying to get the insurance company marker pen off is proving annoying

Fitting a new rear gearbox mount tonight and swapping some sensors around on the P75 throttle body that ive refitted as its not running right now.
It feels as though its holding back, might fit the afr gauge I have and see whats going on.
